I'm not naïve to know what ODP is in 2018. But for a kid that is 13 years old, its a cool experience. We would have paid the same amount of money for her to attend a college soccer camp, so what's the difference? She can now meet/play with some players that she normally competes against and build more relationships. Do I see this being anything that leads to anything bigger at 13 years old? Most likely not. She will get more opportunities from her ECNL team. Of course we are not with the best players in the state due to DA not allowing it and a-hole parents who talk down on it. Take it for what it is worth. Its a fun experience for the kids.

It gets very competitive at the region level. The level of play in Alabama is exceptional and the players can immediately jump on the field and play high level possession soccer.

I would agree that ODP isn’t what it was 4-5 years ago. If your kid makes the R3 team it is a good experience and very good competition. Most of the players at that level are all on ECNL- at least for the girls. My daughter has benefited from it but the training isn’t all that great. The higher up levels have a benefit because of the better competition when you play the other regional teams across the country.

ODP = US Youth Soccer (USYS) ODP Program (What every body calls ODP is in fact an "ODP Program" of USYS Like calling Kleenex vs. Facial tissue. ODP state is run by State US Youth Soccer associations (FYSA). This basically the only ODP prgram up until 6-10 years ago so USSF relied more upon this.
ODP = Super Y also has ODP program
PDP = Another US Club Soccer ODP program

NTC (National Training Center) also called US Soccer training Centers = ODP type program directly run by US Soccer Federation (USSF). When USSF got sick of every league creating ODP programs with greatly varied standards, they created there own.

2nd FYI - The US Club Soccer (PDP and ID2), Super Y (ODP) , and NTC are all free. USYS (really their State Associations like FYSA) charge for this program.

Heard most of the Fl players for girls 01-02 team were all b team players last year. Other states can still at least field a competitive team at the ODP camp.

Saw it firsthand in Auburndale. The original plan the players were told was to have 2 teams for 01-02. Then they scrapped that idea and decided to roster the returning 01 and 02 girls, plus add a few new 02 players. In looking at the list, I'm guessing they went through several invites before the final group. Skill level and interest at ODP has definitely gone down.

ODP is a playing opportunity. In many states, it is a good way for kids that live in rural or urban areas to be exposed to higher level coaching and games. Most places don’t offer DA programs, or players live where it is difficult geographically to train weekly at a more advanced level. ODP was a helpful tool for players in the late 1980’s to early 2000’s when DA and ECNL programs didn’t exist. I don’t think anyone thinks that ODP is at the top of a development pyramid, or that all the best players participate, so what is the problem with kids using it to have more playing opportunities? If my child wasn’t good enough to play DA or to be selected to the top club team and ODP was an option I might sign him up.

Have any U.S. Club Soccer ID2 or PDP programs been running in Florida or the southeast? When and for what ages?

Not ours. ODP is an even bigger joke here than what it sounds like there in FL. B team players, practices used to be almost weekly, now it's sometimes only once a month! All the top players are in the top leagues and having no trouble getting recruited or NT looks if they're good.
