    US Club Responds to Defections

    May 1, 2018

    Dear members,

As we progress further into our spring seasons and approach a summer of national competitions and excitement, I wanted to personally reassure our members in the Northeast of US Club Soccer's continued commitment.

That commitment isn't just to our numerous leagues in the region, including NPLs and ENPL qualifying competitions. It's deeper than that. It's taking our Players First philosophy and applying it to clubs, coaches, parents and players.

Our NPLs in the Northeast are operated by some of country's top administrators and professional club leaders. After a host organization left mid-season, we have reassured those clubs we're here to help in any way we can. US Club Soccer's mission is to foster the growth and development of clubs throughout the country to create the best development environment for all players. That league is now being operated by US Club Soccer in partnership with those clubs and other neighboring organizations in a collaborative goal to put players first.

The NPL remains at the top of the league structure, and for boys teams, the opportunity to compete for true national championships at the ENPL Playoffs continues to be the coveted, year-end destination. Below the NPL, competitive feeder divisions on multiple levels ensures the NPL product will remain the ideal environment for the best teams in US Club Soccer.

Those 76 premier clubs populating NPLs in the region are:

We're proud of the work our members are accomplishing on and off the field. The NPL map shows an impressive collection of leagues that are improving the youth soccer landscape and helping hundreds of thousands of kids achieve their goals.

In the Northeast, specifically, there are many exciting opportunities to come. While we currently have crossover competitions in the area, including with the NEP and NYCSL, we'll offer a more robust crossover schedule in the future. In addition to our NPLs in the region, there are numerous other leagues that are hitting their stride – and are worth commending: NEP, NYCSL, CCSL, NCSA, WYSL, NSL, JAGS, SSI, NNESL, ROOTS and more. And, of course, the National Cup, State Cups and PDPs/id2 provide additional outlets to improve individually and as teams.

There are ongoing conversations and meetings with current clubs, as well as NPL applicants, for an even better structure in 2018-19. Announcements of expanded leagues and initiatives are coming soon.

Most importantly, US Club Soccer families can be confident they're a part of the safest environment of any youth soccer organization in the country. All coaches and staff are required to pass our best-in-class background screening and complete injury recognition training. Player Health & Safety has been, and will continue to be, our first and foremost responsibility.

On behalf of everyone at US Club Soccer, we wish you and your family continued excellence on the field, and we hope to see you soon.

As always, thanks for your support.

Have to disagree with the well run NYCSL

US Club has allowed NYCSL to make up their own rules and needlessly creating confusion

Example....Making Atletico play Metro before letting them “back” into NPL when SYSA bought
ISA, but Barca got to play in NPL straight away.

You either meet the minimum NPL qualifications or you don’t. There is no rule about a metro feeder League requirement - NPL is a club based philosophy /platform

Losing EDP was a real nut-buster for US Club.

Personally, I think the NPL concept sucks. I'd much rather have divisions based on individual team merits, not club size. And it looks like a large amount of clubs agree as they commit to EDP.

Did they have a choice with Barca a US Club sponsor. Bet that wasn't their call

They're losing market share and prestige. For the most part NPL is now #3. I agree EDP method is preferred - promotion and relegation. Just because a club is big enough to field all age groups doesn't mean all those teams are any good. It also makes it very difficult for a new or upcoming club to enter NPL because they don't have a full bevy of teams. EDP also gets the occasional "special" team that deserves the challenge, even if the club's other teams aren't as strong.

Yeah, la liga is a US Club partner. No way they could say no to Barca.

The typical soccer cray kid has nothing to do with this ridiculous quarrel. None of these organizations holds the high ground. Just watch out as best you can that your own players or any other player does not get caught in the cross fire. Choose a soccer home but be aware.

Sage advice, but it's not easy for parents to keep up with all the changes. The constant change has only sped up too.

Agree ☝️ With both of you. Add in the fact that you have clubs merging or buying their way into NPL.....see below....they are loading up their teams and do not have the good or bad teams in an age group like mist of the other clubs..

                      SUSA bought / merged ISA
Cedar Stars bought / merged with SPA
