The reality is most won't be playing D1 college soccer or attending as a regular student because they will be hard to get into. UCF has a 4.0 mean GPA and 1360 SAT to get admitted, and community college or working at the pizza joint may be a reality and nothing wrong with that reality. No reasoning or control over it. It is what it is for each kid. But the parents can control if they give money to their alma mater or attend events. When the alma mater has not grown to accomodate the Florida students who are deserving and admits out of state students with lesser qualifications, then the partnership is over.

UF does not have room for Florida's Bright Futures students, yet will turn around and take more transfer and students from community colleges two years down the road, many out of state too. Over 50% of the masters and doctorate degree seeking students are from out of state, even though the freshmen % was around 23.39% for 2017. The 2018 statistics are not published until Feb 2019 and then the admittance rate for out of state freshmen could be as high as 30% (predicting because of the Common app and receiving 7,000 more applications this year).

Weighted Gpa is deceiving - UF values rigor of courses also. A 4.5 taking elective dual enrollment classes isn't as impressive as taking code AP classes. Athough UF is more random with their decisions, kids are being denied from FSU and UCF that would've made it easily just a couple years ago. Out of state acceptance and yield rates aren't available yet, but everyone assumes they are giving preferential treatment to non residents.

The reality is the masses won't be playing in college and they were happy to do it as a youngster and will play as an adult. The masses are applying to UF and FSU and the majority won't be getting admitted. This thread is giving the soccer junior an edge on his college application.

The same top students apply to all the Florida colleges and they get into all of them. Also a Dual Enrollment class is taught by college professors and they are not less or more difficult than an AP course taught by regular high school teachers. Universities do know that.

As for the rigor of CC classes it very much depends on the school and instructor. Some CC are far less challenging than even regular core HS classes, let alone AP classes. Also most students will take the AP placement exam which also scores knowledge. There is no equivalent for CC coursework.

Try to compare college algebra at a community college to AP calculus A/B or B/C. UF certainly knows this. Community college is not where the top students take classes, and full of older students who are returning to college taking remedial level classes

The admissions office doesn’t know the Michigan kids school nor the Chinese school. The computers have algorithms doing the cuts and it’s a numbers game. Some students out of state are worth more money and they know that too.

There's a lot to be said for D3 - still a big commitment but with more balance and no read of losing your scholarship - or simply playing club and having a more rounded college experience.

USC is highest at 40% but despite it's name is a private school, not state. UVA=30% frosh; UNC 18% (state law 82% must be NC residents). UF is pretty in range with other top state schools.
Soccer TS parents, have a reality check early. If the GPA is not near the mean of 4.4 then get to work.
