College coaches don't give two sh ites about the MNT. The MNT is USSF's problem and their poor performance has been discussed on many threads. College coaches care about winning their own games. Whoever helps them win gets the spot. These players are essentially rejects from top international academies. But they're well trained, disciplined and dedicated enough to soccer to be willing to hop an ocean to keep playing. Many hope for a shot in MLS so they will give it their all in college.

I would not say they have played particularly good competition yet.

The PL does nothing of the sort.

You can't without legislation and even then it would be an uphill battle. At the state level state legislators could theoretically limit or ban how much of public $ is allowed, but it would be nearly impossible to restrict private schools. Almost all US schools rely on international students and athletics are a part of that. It brings in tuition $, diversifies the student body and ups a school's prestige. Schools shouldn't be restricted on who they can and cannot take nor should coaches. Then again, with this administration I can totally see them just restricting student visas. As it is universities are seeing declines in international applications and acceptances because of our unsettled environment.

UConn just is bad. Bad recruiting for years has caught up to them. Rachel Hill was a lucky get and without her they would have been bad for 6 years

So, nobody is banning international students.

The NCAA would just limit the maximum internationals on the roster to two. Schools can like it or not, but that would be the rule. It's not difficult.
And, it's NCAA, so although the Trump administration would likely offer to build a wall to help, it's not needed. No legislation or executive action needed. Just an NCAA decision. Fin.

The lawsuit that made national news didn't help them, then they fill the vacated spot with one of his AC's. That signals nothing has changed, even if it isn't true. The school location doesn't appeal to all and in the NE there are many other great schools to chose from. If you're a true top talent you won't want UCONN but ACC or Pac 12 or Big 10.

The NCAA doesn't care either. If the schools don't want it, it will never happen. International recruiting for basketball has also become a big industry, and the revenue sports call the shots.

Of course they do. They have the homegrown player rule. As I mentioned, it's ineffective. But, particularly in the wake of Brexit, there's a push to strengthen this approach.

Statements like this are so wrong. Top talent is not going to Miami or Syracuse. Its not going to Iowa, Nebraska or even Rutgers tbh. you ahve to eb a lot more specific than you seem to want to be.

no they dont. there are entire starting X1s with no English players.

Of course there are. But, the homegrown player rule is an attempt to get English players more starts and playing time. It's ineffective, for now, but Brexiteers and others like them are pushing for stronger rules.

They don’t push the English players to start. They have the rule that requires 8 homegrown players on a roster of 25. The players (English or international) doesn’t even have to be English. Cesc Fabregas counts as a homegrown player.

At present, Premier League clubs are allowed a maximum of 25 players in their first-team squad.

If teams want to take full advantage of that maximum player allowance, eight of them must be homegrown.

'Home Grown' simply means that a player must have been on the books of a club affiliated with the Football Association for at least three years before they turn 21 – it does not mean that they have to be English.

Since the reason for this is to bolster the performance of the England national team, is it seriously your permission that the Prem is pushing clubs to just add English players to their bench?

And, again, the rule is ineffective. But, there is a push to strengthen it.
