Spoken like a parent of a losing team. Winning isn't most important at 11, but the point is that BS is not even competitive. Just as kids dont develop by beating up on weaker teams, getting your butt kicked every week is also pointless. Should just compete in a premier league where your team can win and lose some and develop. Instead, pretending you're an academy team and getting smashed just makes the whole club look bad.

WELL SAID. I could care less if my kids lost every single game... as long they had a good team, the games were competitive, they learned from each game, and improved over the season. Going toe to toe with a top club and losing by a couple of goals can be a very positive experience if you have the right coaches and a club that focuses on developing the players.

Getting blown out in games that are painful to watch is not good for anyone... especially the 12 or 13 year old who does not yet have the maturity to constantly deal with defeats like this. There is nothing to learn when the opponent starts playing Rondo or subs in the bottom of the bench. There is nothing to learn when your teammates get frustrated and forget how to play soccer and start playing kickball.

BS over the years has had good teams and great teams. Until recently, it never had terrible teams. Even in weak years, they fielded players who could hold their own with any club. Even when we went 0-4 in tournaments against some of the best clubs on the East Coast, we walked away with our heads high because all the games were close and competitive and the kids were proud of how they played. Now, 0-4 in a tournament is expected and a close game is a very rare occurrence.

Our oldest had an amazing experience and to this day couldn't tell how many games they won or lost (they won a lot). Our youngest can tell you EXACTLY how many games he has won in his 2 years with the club... because the victories are so rare. We wanted this year to work out because we thought last year was just an anomaly - given how different it was to what our oldest experienced. However, this year is even worse. It has NOTHING to do with the win-loss record and EVERYTHING to do with the fact my son has lost some of his love for the sport.

Cosmos are actually a good comparison to BS. A once-mighty club that dominated Long Island for years. While they evolved and are better run then BS, they too got hurt by MLS Academies and other strong premier clubs popping up all over Long Island. Like BS, they suffer from bad geography. Clubs like Gotschee and Met Oval draw from their territory, not to mention NPL clubs like Bkln Italians, Barca, Brentwood, etc.

The 0-0 game is probably a good benchmark for where both clubs are. But 5-1 is silly when Cosmos play an A/B team while BS plays balanced teams.

So then the 5-1 game must have been the cosmos "B" team and BS probably had some of their top 12's playing together making it their "A" team for the week. Every week one team is definitely stronger then the other.

Kids develop, win or lose. In fact, if they work hard and develop and improved game, they should start winning more games. You speak as though there is no opportunity for them to change their status and of course there is always the opportunity to get better. The only issue is if the coaching in the club is creating a culture that allows the players to work to develop themselves and indeed, get better.

Why would any club, with the intent of playing serious soccer at these age groups give up a coveted DA badge or even an ECNL badge?

The club may look bad to you, standing on the outside, but in the end, all this really only matters to those willing to play there and fund their kids' soccer development. It really only matters to the club owners and staff and the standards of excellence they set for the club.

Why is there this theory that U-little doesn't matter? If you are a player it matters. If you are a parent it matters.

Time is precious, and everyday matters. Every year matters.

Wins/losses may not matter in the development of the player, but for the development of a club it does matter. Anyone that says otherwise doesn't own a club.
