Originally posted by Unregistered View PostThis is a very dumb statement. Many kids commit in their senior year and that’s a fact. If you’re a strong player you will get recruited wherever you play. Parents are out of their mind today thinking that you have to be at one club or another or one league or another. As long as your club is going to showcase tournaments and not a little rec level club and you’re good enough to play in college you will be recruited, period.

It’s so important to be at a club that has people on staff who help you with college recruitment but those clubs are few and far between unfortunately. I don’t know why more clubs don’t have people on staff who specialize in that. Our club just gives our kids a link to a website! I know there are some clubs that offer more help but they aren’t in our area and it doesn’t make sense to drive so far to another’s club just for that but it may be worth it.

In theory the new rules will push more kids into that junior year time frame - but it's too early to tell what impact it has. It probably won't change for the top recruits (lots of loopholes that allow for early "commits"), but in reality most players aren't "top" recruits.

Admission deadlines are for the most part, in January. If you player is not signed, then their best hope is to look at walking on at their school which does happen though rarely. Schools have open trials at the beginning of the season but not all.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostRight on. The “average” recruit will commit in the Junior or Senior year. U18/U19 is mostly Juniors with a few fall birthday seniors. Clubs like FESA and PRIME are doing the U18/U19 teams a disservice by not entering them in the ECNL Orlando showcase.

That's how it should be and should have more of - why have players and coaches traveling cross country for a meet and greet? ECNL has NJ and SC, 2 Phoenix (one fall, one spring) plus FL in winter and CA spring. Teams aren't required to attend all so they can chose the ones that make the most sense for them. GDA has fewer events and all are mandatory.
As for U19 teams? Again, then can opt for fewer events. Not all players are recruited yet. College coaches also like to check on their recruits. Players want to play.

Even at my daughters small club the DOC does this with any kid that wants to go play college soccer. A good DOC will be brutally honest about if your child’s ability will translate to the next level. Not everybody can play college soccer regardless if it’s D1, D2, D3 or NAIA. But there are a lot of options if your child really wants to play and they have the ability.
