US Soccer holding us hostage

Virtually every player in GDA knows they're not NT material. But GDA needs that 99.8% of players to make the league work. USSF can't seem to grasp they're competing with a well entrenched competitor that offers a similar product with an important differentiator to many players. HS sports.

Since when did US Soccer become a competitor to youth orgs like US Club? or even USYS?
Did the nation's soccer infrastructure change?

US Club Soccer & USYS are under the governance of US Soccer and those two(USYS & US Club). do compete for youth players between themselves and not US Soccer.

US Club offers a product that is driven and overseen by well paid Club DOC's and US Soccer has zero interest in their showcasing expensive product and is not pleased with the products produced from this 'combine' model. Youth Nat teams results reflect this displeasure.

Not doing HS has been a staple of the boys DA for over a decade it's never been a dealbreaker.

So, if US Soccer actually thought of US Club Soccer as something to be crushed using your logic they need only eliminate the ban on HS soccer for girls. Obviously, they aren't interested in that, they want better players produced from a different platform.

US Club soccer got it wrong, catering to colleges with title ix windfalls and our National teams are suffering.

Top clubs are getting a lot of pressure because kids want to play high school soccer, like the best players have always done. World Cup winners talk about the pride of representing their school.

Every sociological or psychological study of happiness notes the importance of balance in life. Connection to community is also important. When you have a big local rivalry or a playoff game and hundreds fill the stands, the kids love it. When they get mobbed by the student section after the game, the kids love it. Standing for the national anthem at your school, kids love it.Until the MBA suits in the board room at GDA figure that out, they will struggle to attract top players.

I truly enjoyed listening to Pogba's about the pride of representing his HS after France won it this year.

Not to mention these Women's World Cup Champions and Golden Boot winners remark about the pride associated with playing HS in 1995 Norway's Riise, 2007 Germany's Printz,
2007 Brazil's Marta & 2011 Japan's Sawa.

Whenever a US Player gets the call to represent, they leave HS behind them. No hesitation. Much like picnic softball games they miss it a little, but really not much.

In Oregon the gda only got at best 20% of the top players. Retention hasn’t been great. That will probably skip to 7%-10% this year.

Again this isn't about NT players. It's about all the others needed to sustain viable, high quality league. There's a lot of clubs and players that aren't the nation's best, or even close.

I do believe there is a place for GDA. It just needs to be much, much smaller. In the long run that benefits the NT players more as well. No one is improving their skill base traveling long distances for big blow out games. Shrink it, improve the quality. The travel will still suck but so be it. They could find some creative ways to get around that. All the players and clubs that don't belong still have other good options.

GDA will probably stick around for a while. The quality isn't very good, but you just have to grin and bear it.
