Look everyone, hear my words. In 10 years time. Most of these town teams like sachem, smithtown, connetquot, brentwood, HBC (you name it) they will become strictly recreational perhaps for kids 3-5 years old trying a game for the first time.

As of right now Barca Academy, Surf, SUSA, Valencia, Juventus, Paris St. Germain, (real Madrid will also be establishing roots hear in the NY/NJ area as well within 2-3 years) are all establishing strong roots in the NY NJ market. Taking all the best players and training them properly in the game. US Soccer has for to long left the fate/future of US Soccer in the hands of a bunch of volunteer dads/moms to coach and train kids (who know nothing of the game).

The younger kids will be benefiting during this transition for their developent as players (unfortunatley our pockets will not benefit).

Sachem board big part of the problem as they hired LIPS to turn club around, not to take players to his own Smithtown teams while the Sachem ones not good enough were left to die. They are fools for allowing that to happen so only have self to blame.

        SYSL's steps to failure

        1) Force all new travel teams to use trainers. But hire trainers from Challenger that are mostly college age kids out of Britain and grossly unqualified. Result, qualified coaches walk away with their kids, and in some cases entire teams.

        2) Double down and go to more expensive trainers from Coastal. Coastal in turn provides mostly college age kids from Long Island, that are grossly unqualified. Result, even more parent coaches and players leave. Teams begin to fold at an alarming rate.

        3) Coastal gets bought out by SUSA. So triple down, switch to Red Bulls trainers that are even more expensive. Problem is that Red Bulls are already stretched too thin so they hire whatever retread trainers that they can get their hands on to fill the spots. Some good, some not so good. More people leave and many of the ones that stay shift over to the interleague program to avoid the high training costs. The program still has some good teams left but they are basically KK teams that are also playing for Sachem.

        4) Stroke of pure genius with their next move. Sign a 7 year contract with Lips to run your travel program for even more money. Lips in turn provides a girls DOC that had previously worked for the Red Bulls at Sachem the previous year. They literally now had the same trainer from the previous year that they had deemed a failure and now are paying even more money for his services through Lips. And if that wasn't enough, they banned KK from the Waverly Ave Soccer Complex which caused him to yank all those teams out of SYSL, including two state champion teams. And just for the sake of raising moral, while they were forcing every other travel team in the club to pay between $125 and $150 a month for Lips trainers, the board members exempted their own kids teams from having to use the Lips trainers and continued to use other outside trainers at a fraction of that cost.

        5) With the dumpster fire now in full effect, the board members that made these terrible decisions start fleeing SYSL, in several cases taking entire teams with them, including taking at least one team to Smithtown. Their own hired trainers were already shuffling talented kids from SYSL over to Smithtown but now they were taking entire teams.

Combine that with the fiasco of having to bring in a Lacrosse club to help them pay for the fields (many teams only had 1 or 2 home games a season as a result of losing field access to lacrosse tournaments) and having some of the highest registration fees on Long Island, at this point the Boys and Girls program barely exists above U10.

I like Tommy. I think he is a little burnt out from so many years of being involved in youth sports and is kind of going on cruise control at this point, but the dumpster fire we call SYSL is not his fault.
