My kid is already a MLS Timbers Dev Academy welfare recipient since he has been in the DA Academy for the last 3 years.

Being selected based on merit and ability is now considered 'welfare'. Got it.

    Bitter much?

Hard to be bitter when our daughter turned down the spot she was offered with thorns academy. And "Academy dad," your fees are paid by MLS. Not every player in Oregon. You should be aware of this as an academy dad...

No his fees are paid by Peregrine, the MLS single entity has nothing to do with it.

Every person that pays for a Peregrine product (Timbers/Thorns) is paying and if Peregrine is losing money than the owner is directly paying for it.

Don't think for a second that because the MLS mandates it (boys da) , they (MLS) agree to pay for it, that's insane if that were the case the MLS would be taking credit for it, Peregrine is stuck with the bill not the MLS. You have much you need to be made aware of, also the GDA tryouts haven't happened yet so it's difficult to turn it down on the spot, unless in addition to your imagination you also can time travel to the future. Which may be the case.

          4 Years ECNL = $28,000 to $40,000 per player

          4 Years GDA = $8,000

Oh, but that $125 tryout fee is the deal breaker? C'mon man!
You are a fool if you think fees will stay that low. Timbers are only doing this because they have to. They are subsidizing using dirty money they make off OYSA. In the end the Timbers are about making money and not losing it on anything girls related that will never make them any money.

Timbers bring in millions, why is the OYSA contracted services revenue, which is just a drop in the bucket even mentioned and why is it 'Dirty'?

            Your are seriously clutching here.

Keep grasping. Just stay with your ECNL club and pay $40,000 plus for 5 years of club soccer then.

$125 per kid for a try out is ridiculous. It's just a way to make $30,000 quick and easy. That's why US Soccer tries to prohibit it.

On one hand they Peregrine) are dumping hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars into the boys and girls DA programs for those with the talent and commitment to make this standard.

But , you are upset that they have a tryout fee of $125?

Thank god you don't play at FC or CU where they pay 10k a year and have no tryout fee.

I'm upset I have to pay for a 40 cent stamp for postage when I send in my tax return, if I don't buy the stamp for 40 cents and mail it off, I don't get the tax return refund of $50,000 dollars, it's so ridiculous.

                  great point.

It's a for profit business. They can make money however they want. It is excessive. But I bet if the fee was $475 parents of kids that aren't very good would still pay it.

Yes making $30,000 in a day or two is gratuitous but there's nothing anyone can do about it.

The point is to reduce barriers so that everyone can try out. That is why US Soccer says clubs cannot charge a tryout fee. Not sure how the rich Timbers get away with it but the rich get richer.

Are you saying if you could bank $40,000 in two days you wouldn't? Hypocrite.

Why not charge $10? They'd still make a lot of money. They don't need to earn $8,000 per hour.

If they have 4 coaches out that will cost then $42 per hour so it's not as profitable as you might think.

I'm sure they will do just fine if they are making $8,000 per hour plus or minus. That's $32,000 in just a couple days.

Has anyone requested for a return on the $125 registration fee?
