Posting from another state with very little Talking Soccer action....ODP is dead in our state and many around us. Certainly no DA level kids past U13-14 (not allowed), or really many ECNL players either, at least not the better ones. The quality of players has nosedived. Now with boys ECNL and GDA it will drop even further. It's expensive and a poor value - some teams only practice once a month. There are so many other ID platforms out there now and most players only care about college exposure any way, not getting NT invites.

Oregon girls Academy players are allowed. They get to skip state level odp but do regional camp & beyond. Odp isn't dead in Oregon but it has lessened over the years with all the other options.

I thought DA forbade ODP participation because it's outside of the academy? why would any DA player want to do ODP any way? DA is much better college and NT exposure pg 4

4.Player Participation in Unapproved Outside Competitions: Academy Players must meet all attendance and participation requirements for training and games for their Academy team during the Academy Season. Failure to meet those requirements should result in removal from the Academy team. Academy Clubs may not permit any Academy Player to participate on a non-Academy team during the Academy Season. Academy Clubs will be held accountable for the actions of their players. The only permissible soccer related reasons to miss Development Academy activities is National Team dutyandU.S.Soccer Training Centerparticipation.

That's cute posting the rules. The rules also require a minimum of four trainings a week. The rules also expressly prohibit a try out fee. US Soccer is a shell organization with no power. Thorns can do whatever they want. Nobody cares what US Soccer has to say.

Well that's true - plenty of clubs don't follow the "guidelines" and USS seems to turn a blind eye ( But the question of why any DA player would continue with ODP is a valid one. Maybe up until U14 or so, or if you're not certain you'll make it through the DA gauntlet to U18. But past U14 if you're in DA the training and exposure is generally world's better. College coaches know ODP isn't what it used to be. Having DA on your resume opens lots of doors; after that you have to prove yourself

The rosters for ODP regional camp & regional pool players are mostly also on the Oregon GDA rosters so GDA rules don't apply, at least in Oregon. US Soccer has full access to all ODP & GDA rosters so they can stop it if they want. Otherwise, let girls play where & when they want. Who cares? If the boys DA isn't allowed to do ODP, I'd let them too to make it fair.

Actually they are not. With DA they kids are working on a balanced training schedule that contemplates muscle recovery. It's the same type of schedule used by professionals and it's designed specifically to prevent overuse by spacing out high intensity workouts, weight training, etc with low intensity/impact training sessions. It's all under one roof. This is one reason that when training hits four days a week the kids should not get outside training.

With kids doing the High School/ECNL/ODP path the injury rate is higher not only because they have three sets of coaches not communicating with one another as respects training sessions, but because the level of play in high school is also so much lower.

US Soccer is just a money making franchise. They don't care if people don't follow the rules.

The goal is to weaken the women's side like they have done on the men's side.

US Soccer has made a mess out of the men's side. For a country the size of the US I am alway surprised they are so dull and uncreative and lack the big time athletes.

It is too bad they are getting involved on the girls side which was doing just fine.

It's all about leadership and quality coaching. We have neither. Look at what Iceland was able to do with leadership and commitment, a country the size of small US cities. many other small countries with far less resources do better on the international stage. I ha e no faith USSF will make significant strides on the women's side

I understand that there is a lot of room for improvement nationwide on the girl's/women's side. But, the US is still the current Women's World Cup champions. Let's not forget that.
