Their experience of living abroad and learning another language is an asset for admissions applications. It's a life experience, even as far as at least trying to reach your goals but falling short. How do you deal with it? Life lessons, good stuff
Soccer culture? Who cares. It's flop culture and it fits them to a tee.

Going abroad for soccer at their age is a joke.

When college time comes you will all understand that these poor kids have been handcuffed by their parents.

    Admissions is ultra competitive.

You're better off traveling to Portugal for community service endeavors than for soccer.

please those "service" trips are a joke. it's for the families that can afford to send their kids on a vacation with 20 hours of working with poor people.

It's only because it takes time to get approved to play in Europe through FIFA. They played plenty of tournaments and friendlies against local and international teams. They are receiving an excellent education as well.

No matter what you post on here and try to denigrate the boys, it does not take away from the fact that they are receiving 100% better training and opportunity than playing at the Revs.

And don't think the Revs don't know this. They would gladly welcome any of the Portugal players back with open arms, if only to make themselves look better.

Colleges love applicants that did not attend real high schools so that they can pursue daddy's failed dreams.

Like they did with JR? Don't kid yourself. Once their egos are even slightly bruised there is nothing but scorn.

The rest I agree with. They'll do well even if a pro career isn't in their cards.

Colleges are smart enough to know who is doing the real pushing and can smell toxicity a mile away.

Yea, the Lorax to Thing 1 and Thing 2. All belong in a childrens book and totally out of place on a field. They lied to him like they lied to all their entire rec team for years. Constantly trashed their teamates to ensure their place on the Revs and tried to get the Asian kid out of Revs. How many NT callups have they had?

                      Zero.

He's been called up at least 6 times.

The Revs are sooo jealous. Puhleez. Smell your sh!te coming from a mile away.

                      Get out of our club!

And sadly they still mean more than playing soccer in Portugal and nothing else.

They love kids that push themselves ACADEMICALLY. How does a guidance counselor check the "most challenging schedule offered" box for an "online school" when there isn't a guidance counselor, or a challenging schedule? How many AP classes will they take? How may AP exams will they take? Their SAT's better be stellar but that will be tough. At this point, extracurriculars, specifically service hours, are as important as grades. If you aren't a RECRUITED athlete then they could care less about your extended European soccer vacation. Like was mentioned earlier, thousands of kids go to Europe for one reason or another. Playing soccer isn't going to get an AdCom's attention because it's self-aggrandizing rather than selfless in nature. These kids face a totally uphill battle in terms of college admission.
