They're not fortune tellers that can read what changes will happen next year. That said, when several very good clubs left GDA last year to go back to ECNL it was not a good sign at all.
It was pretty obvious that the gda launch was going to be underwhelming when all the details emerged. If an average dumb soccer parent could see it, why couldn't professional soccer organizations?

Early adopters were probably very hopeful. Announcements about who was joining came out in waves and there were certainly some quality clubs there. Some clubs didn't have lots of options given this was starting and they weren't already in ECNL - what's a club to do? Also, like the league, some clubs clearly misread what their customers wanted. But that didn't become clearer until tryouts - too late to pull out? Then the quality of the competition didn't become clear until games started - some bailed last spring but most said they needed to give it more time.

USSF bamboozling them is also an option

For a club like NYCFC to only have 3 or 4 girls at tryouts last summer, parents should have seen the writing on the wall. Parents need to be a little more saavy too people. Take some ownership on yourself! A club will offer you anything they think people will pay for, but come on, look at those younger teams...some parents were more interested in having their kid wear the fancy uniform than have a great soccer experience. When your roster has 11 players with one goalie on the team, who is playing up, a week before practices are supposed to start, perhaps you should be questioning the validity of the teams

I learned early on, the hard way, that every year you need to do a serious evaluation of each your player's situations well before tryout season. It's never a bad idea to look around and see what else is out there. Get in front of clubs before mass tryouts in case you need to bail. You may just find that all is well, or you might find a better situation without really knowing you wanted it. There's no telling if your team might blow up, club blows up, possibly the league blows up. The situation has only gotten worse with what has now become huge landscape changes every year.

I see 3 clubs playing 3 games as intended. Just no 18/19 games.

This thread has mostly been about the girls DA program. For boys you need to get your kid on an affiliate club team that’s where most of their recruiting is done from
