The ethical way to do this is to deliver a superior product to what ECNL has to offer and let the market decide. The sleazy GDA way is to use national team callups as bribery, mostly offering them only to GDA - affiliated players. This is why you see players like the Thorns girl - who didn’t even get an athletic scholarship award to play in college - get a national team callup. Rewarding loyalty and sending a message to ECNL players - GDA is the only way you’ll get a sniff at National camp.

Aside from how gross this is, consumers should be concerned for a variety of reasons. A business that conducts itself this way - imagine what they’ll do if they succeed in running ECNL out of business? And, given the ascension of other nations’ WNT, the USWNT not searching for every worthy player, no matter what initials follow their team name, is heading us down the same road as the MNT. But hey, maybe that’s the plan all along. Can’t b**ch about equal pay if you stop winning.
I’m sure any Thorns Academy player that got a national team call up, got at least a little scholarship to college, unless they went d3.

If they signed an NLI, they got at least some money. Might just be books but something.

What about the age groups above U18? Why did you choose that one? Hmm ... I wonder.

Yep you should be worried, but not about the US GDA but about the ECNL. All US soccer did was create an equal system to the boys, equal treatment. Why does the ECNL want to hold back girls soccer ?

Many if not most of them went through the youth system prior to ECNL; all of them went through prior to GDA (which is only starting its third season).

Many of them played for clubs that are now in ECNL or GDA.

And I'll bet you that none of those clubs got magically better by donning a patch, and if they did, it was solely due to a recruiting advantage, and not due to any technical improvements mandated by the leagues.

Why snub your nose at D1? Most elite soccer families don’t need any money for college. If you can pay for elite travel soccer, you can afford college. Goal is D1. Little money is fine.
