Case in point the USMNT. They all can juggle the ball and perform trick shots in practice. But they have no will to win. That “limp desire to win” is the desired result of the showcase mentality.

Eliminate all trophies below U18. Problem solved.

Wrong and stupid. Showcases make up a few weekends a year for a few additional games. Ever heard of friendlies? Every club in every country at every level of soccer has them. Does this affect everyone else's mentality?

The point is to take away the desire to win at all costs and get kids to just perform their skills. The players that want to win need to be disciplined and realize that showcases are not the place. Think ice skating where you perform and get judged versus hockey where you knock people down to get a goal and win. Hockey is ugly, dirty and intense. Whereas as Olympic ice skating showcase is beautiful and graceful.

Try to get kids to stop thinking hockey and think more Olympic ice skating.

This is what we need more of. Quit trying to out run the other team with speed and going direct just to win the Clash championship. This is refreshing and we need more thinking like this.

They all played USYS and high School , + most did odp as well.

Nearly all the top players are over 26 yrs old.

Just like the former 3 World Cup champions who played only HS , college and odp.

Why play games if you don't want to win? What's the purpose of developing skills sets? Is it not to be the better team and win? Pretty sure we just watched games where the dominate world champions would bypass the midfield and send it high immediately or deep to the corners (in the games that it was beneficial). Showcases are ruining youth soccer. Give the kids a reason to play and a reason to develop skill sets.
