I don't see it happening and see no reason for ECNL to do that.

As far as competitiveness - look at last years PDA GDA playoffs vs this years’s ECNL playoffs. Whereas last years they couldn’t compete with podunk California teams, now they seem to be in control of the playoffs. One national championship in the bag, and maybe 1-2 more coming their way. It’s like winning the northern counties league again. Feels great.

As for the last line with grades - that is true if you look at soccer players overall. The vast majority will never play in college and having good grades will always be a benefit in so many ways. But at the upper levels of club soccer, those kids can and will play in college if they want (assuming they target the right programs). Keeping your grades up gives you even more options. Not all will be "bankrolled" because the goal for many is to use soccer to get into somewhat better schools than they can without soccer. That will include many quality D3 schools where there is only merit $. Most soccer families are middle to upper income so half off a quality education is a win for them.

GDA slightly less, however you also get less time in front of college coaches. GDA also seems to miss the point of why the girls are really paying the game. ECNL, seems to be too much, with some of the events not needed. Both leagues are a fraud! All of this could be done on a local level.
