It looks like most tryouts start on Monday, but some clubs are Struggling for fields. FC Portland is holding tryouts in a random neighborhood on grass fields that could definitely use some upkeep. And they don’t start tryouts until the 10th. Vancouver is lucky they own their fields, so they have more space. Westside registration is free - as long as you do it ahead of time. And THUSC/Crossfire United are using 1 tryout for all levels. So if you don’t make ECNL, you’re placed on an OYSA team. The Thorns already had their tryouts at a private school (except their younger teams that’ll play in OYSA).

Now hopefully Kate Brown will let the kids play some soccer.

How are the clubs that are running try outs going to limit the groups to 25? Seems like a lot of them are running multiple age groups at the same time at the same place.

My club is skipping try outs and going to training in a week, broken down in small groups of each age group (10-12 players). They're evaluating players and will split teams up later according to how the players do. Seems odd, but makes sense that you can evaluate players over a few weeks of practice better than trying to evaluate 40+ players in a one hour "tryout" session.

Maybe this will be the end of the "tryout" farce? The whole idea that club soccer is exclusive and that you have to be approved to make it in is just a marketing scheme. Everyone who shows up with a check will be in, you just have to hope there are enough to make a solid team.

Not a new structure for UPDX. They will do all they can to keep kids at their club and not let them explore to truly see what's best for the player. They also blatantly recruit and start building their rosters long before OYSA allows. This defeats the purpose of tryouts. It works for them as long as there is no consequences from the state association.

You just listed all the reasons UPDX shouldn't be cheating, yet they still do.

The realities you listed are used as perfect cover for their misdeeds, takes a special kind of scum to pull this off without a 2nd thought.

Misdeeds? Club just trying to survive like everyone else; so far, so good, I guess, but without much prospects for games, etc., certainly limits to the fun.

What club are you at again? You are pretty hell bent on throwing stuff at UPDX hoping something sticks.

I’m not the op but we all see how Brandon operates, I’ll never have my son be a part of that club due to this fact.

They can spend time posting insta videos and trying to out social media SCA but most of us parents just want a good training environment for our kids to grow, have fun and get better at soccer.

Seeing how many kids were at my son’s tryout proves we made the right decision

Are these tryouts/training sessions non-contact? Socially distanced?

Lots of clubs are posting pieces of their return to play plan, which all seem to include physical distancing and that it is non-contact.

Dude quit being a clown - you tried to recruit some UPDX players, were unable, and are now bellow-aching.

Weak sauce and lack of perspective. Keep lecturing about what is best for the kids.
