Link to USSF player development standards which mandate the January 1 cutoff and also include small sided game requirement through u12 -- adds the "build out" line fur u9 an u10.

Recommended August 2016, mandated August 2017. Why not just pull the bandaid off all at once? Some clubs will adopt it right away, others will wait. Just creates more confusion.

what is good for the minority outweighs the majority???

The vast majority of players play for their school, club, and then college.
Until the school year starts Jan 1 and end Dec 31, explain why the majority cannot take precedence over the few? For those few who feel that soccer exceeds their schooling and school team, let them seek the alternative i.e. DAP etc.

Right now the club system is friendly and works in line with the vast majority of high school kids in that they are allowed to play the fall season and follow it up with club soccer thereafter. They then attend college where you either make the team or not and school year does not matter anymore. This transition has worked well for years.

Explain to me why the USA needs to do what the 'rest of the world' is doing. Is this to produce 20 players that someone feels would not have otherwise been produced? What is the logic other than someone stating that 'the rest of the world does it'? If anything, it is more disruptive toward the public and private school system which still accounts for 99% of the youth soccer players in the country.

Except that this allows for AGE appropriate development, not grade based. Why is that bad for 99% of youth players? It also makes age breaks consistent across all, making league and tournament competition age based. Some leagues, like NPL NYSCL, follow calendar based already, but often participate in tournaments that have 8/1 cutoffs so they have to play up a year. There can players nearly two years younger playing. It often isn't a good competitive matchup and can become a safety issue .

This doesn't stop kids playing for their school, it only impacts clubs.

You didn't answer the question. Jan 1 is just as an arbitrary date as Aug 1 is.

What you are really messing up are 8th graders with Aug-Dec birthdays and 12th graders in the same boat (granted u18 is not as important but it is to colleges to keep their recruits in game shape).

                  Follow the money.

Maybe ECNL money but not DAP. DAP already has calendar year and they're certainly not in it for the money. They're abut development. ECNL clubs are in it for the money and their development is often times suspect.

And ODP and ID2 do as well. So again, why change for all leagues besides $$$$?

                        AGE appropriate vs Grade Based?
Since the current non-DAP system and the DAP both group kids based on a birth date, how can you claim that any club soccer system is 'Grade Based'? Even if you kept your kid back a year, the division that they play in is still based on their birthdate....at least this is the case in soccer. Lacrosse and Hockey may be different where the club teams are grouped by graduation year, an entirely different type of ridiculousness.

oh we have to do this...absolutely...because if we do, then we will be as good as european teams and south american teams...we will become a powerhouse if we change. Yeah right, like this really matters. Let the kids play with their classmates and friends. Like the other poster said, its how high school teams and colleges work. As another poster said i believe, we clearly ruined everything because we didnt follow along with the metric system too. What is real advantage of doing it this proposed way compared to the current system ? Just the latest fad

It is quasi-grade based since most leagues run off 8/1 cutoffs. That is essentially by grade with the exception of some outlier kids with strange dates or were held back or (rarely) skip a grade.
