I honestly dont care of it changes but the whole thing is just stupid. Is changing really going to have any sort of concrete benefit ?...is it going to make us suddenly as good as europe or south america ? Of course not....but we have to waste time and money because people think it will actually have some sort of impact. So DAP does it.....wow...there is a good reason for everyone else to change. Different sports do it differently, and within sports there is often variability. You could pick many different twelve month rolling calendars, and you would have issues with most if not all of them in some way. If most high schools and all colleges closely follow the august calendar start, then that should drive it. 99.9 percent of the kids will never play pros, especially in europe or south america, but many will play high school and a fair number college. Total nonsense.....but i am sure we will all fall in line and do as we are told. Change for good reasons is a good thing...change for no reason is not.

We shouldn't change to birth year because we wouldn't be special and America needs to be set apart from the rest of the world because we are better than anyone else.

        Heh.
Also funny how they redacted the pages that mapped out the US plans to convert to the metric system along with the world age group guidelines...Sneaky Iluminati!

Why is it secret anyway? And why is MichiganYSO already stating it is a done deal and 91% of state YSOs agreed to switch to birth year for fall of 2016? That means tryouts next May will be for birth year. Shouldn't ALL the 91% of state YSOs be letting their folks know NOW? Why is Michigan the only state informing folks?

It doesn't have to be done until fall 2017.

Yeah supposedly. All that anyone can seem to find is that one document posted somewhere on this thread. Nothing fully official yet. Regardless it is mandatory by 2017, recommended sooner. Personally I think they should do it all at once - too much confusion over who will do it when.

when we are done with this stupid idea people will realize it makes no difference and provided no value in making the change other than being more like others...wow, that will make us better for sure

What is the harm in changing it? Every other soccer playing nation has calendar year and it doesn't stop kids form playing - places with all different school years starts, etc.

There are enough coaches and club admins trolling this board, but for whatever reason, they have been noticeably silent.

But if there hasn't been an official confirmation what are they supposed to say?

Exactly, I haven't seen the big leagues - ECNL, NPL, etc. make any comment yet.

Academy clubs do not want this. Their teams will be indistiguishable.

Should they do this I suspect they may implement a transition similar to little league baseball.

                              http://www.littleleague.org/Page60863.aspx

To make sure no one loses any eligibility there would be an overlap birth year where a slightly larger player pool qualifies for an age group (See the U9 age group in the baseball link - it covers all of 2006 as well as May through December 2005).

If you don't do this you will have a group of kids with August-December birthdays that will effectively lose eligibility because those are the players that will move up an age group.
