[QUOTE=Unregistered; And, to all those parents that want to start complaining about commitment, my thought is that my kid lets you down when she doesn't show up and your kid lets everyone down even when they are there... and they are always there. [/QUOTE]

Real life lessons. Your kid will be like the co-worker that is always gone and everyone else has to cover for them because you failed to teach them about the team concept of commitment, dependability, and responsibility to your team. I would much rather have someone there all the time than someone you cannot depend on. Stability over flaky.

Or most likely the co worker who comes in early and leaves late but no one really knows what they do or if they accomplish anything.

If the player is a phenom athlete, you would be shocked how coaches will accommodate them because their contribution is often way above their role-player teammates.

This is true and it is also true that these athletes are probably working much harder than other parents realize.

This is from our experience. I remember parents getting ticked off at my oldest player because she missed a FEW practices and maybe a tournament. She did do multi sports because SHE wanted to. For someone to assume that the player is a flake is simply wrong. In her case she was doing all of the following:

          Club soccer
          ODP State
          ODP Region
          ODP National Pool
          ID2
          US Soccer Training Camp

She was very dedicated to her sport and to her team but had a lot on her plate and happened to love track too. To think she is being a flake is ridiculous.

Playing time doesn't need to be equal but rules should be enforced equally - though they often aren't.

And you'll stabilize yourself right down to the bottom of the standings.

That sounds almost socialist. There are ALWAYS different rules for top players.

Stability and dependability are not the same thing. I have co-workers that never miss a day and yet they can't be depended on to complete many things simply because they are incompetent.

That is a novel concept picking competence over incompetence.

Our club talks out of both sides of their mouth.
Coaches always say 'playing time is dictated by practices and trainings---you show up, you play more---except if it may be an important State Cup game, or it may be an important tourney final....or it may mean qualifying for something'----so you have girls that are there almost 100% of the time (dedicated, passionate, on time, never cause issues, etc) but when it comes down to it, coaches feel it's more important to win than to show loyalty to those that do show up, every practice, on time, ready to go......

A bit hypocritical. They say one thing but end of the day, they do the opposite.

By the way---my daughter DOES play two sports and she is equally happy with both. During soccer season, she would say that is her favorite. During basketball, she would say that is her favorite. Why let them choose at an early age?? Let them enjoy the sports for what they are....an ******, for fitness, for enjoyment, for time with friends, etc, etc.

You should leave a team that allows a few players to get away with whatever they want. Even if your child is one of the chosen ones! This is bad news for ALL the kids - win or lose. Our team stars are also role models who follow the rules and work as hard or harder than everyone else. Our coach has held them responsible from a young age. I believe they will end up more successful in soccer & life than the spoiled selfish brats I have seen or heard about on other teams.

I think someone eluded to the fact that you can't simply assume that every time a player is not at practice or a game that it is to your team's detriment. If the player is for example playing ID2 at a much higher level then they bring that experience back to your team. For that matter if the player is placing in state track meets that may benefit your team as well. It is all relative.
