While Solo occasionally says and does things that are foolish--it's interesting to compare her and Abby Wambach. Both have had well-known run-ins with the law.
One, essentially, apologizes and is given a slap on the wrist.
The other is given the full Tonya Harding treatment.
Solo is dead right on this one, and the "rich" part is probably more important than the "white" part, at least around these parts. Like Harding, Solo comes a background of what some folks call "poor white trash", a phrase that is often bandied about as though the first two words together imply the third. Unlike Harding, who was at best a mediocre skater who could do things athletically that no other skater could do but was rather deficient in technique, Solo was--for many years--the best in the world at her job. And Solo has never been accused of trying to injure a competitor--she was run out of the sport, essentially, for trash talk uttered in a stressful moment.
What Solo gets wrong is that her criticism, in the US, is mainly true about the women's game.
On the guys' side, many of the top players in the country are Latino. Or black. Or come from the sticks rather than the manors of Lake Oswego. The USMNT may do a piss-poor job of finding these players, but they are out there, and if it's one thing that the Timbers do relatively well, it's reaching out to the Latino and other immigrant communities (the TA teams are chock full of talented Mexicans, Ukranians, and other kids with foreign nationality or heritage). Of course, this produces reams of whining here in this forum about how TA is picking the "wrong" kids, and how the oversized yuppies who play for the various West Hills clubs are the "true" best players in the local soccer scene ("they play basketball too! And study the piano"). Which is, of course, a bunch of rot.
The difference? A lucrative marketplace for professionals on the men's side, and virtually nada on the women's side. The major opportunity for compensated play for girls/women is NCAA soccer, which is only of use for those wishing to attend college.

Shoulder to Shoulder with sunscreen and notepads, hoping their prized recruits chooses their school over going pro. It’s incredible.
US Soccer has created all of this.

Most MLBers turn pro directly out of high school, and many come from overseas, particularly Latin America. And like NCAA soccer, NCAA baseball involves a ruleset that the pros find obnoxious. (Metal bats, after all, are a greater affront to America's pastime than a countdown clock and weird sub rules are to the world's pastime).

Kinda like you GDA or ECNL trolls.
