It's "we need to pool the top talent in Oregon onto one club.... MY club!" And assuming that if their club actually did contain the top talent, that their own DS or DD wouldn't be one of the ones cut to make room.
If we want to have one top-tier club that has the best talent, it needs to offer a far more compelling product than "you'll have better teammates" or "you'll get to ride the bus to play Crossfire Premier". It should be--gasp--an actual professional academy, one that is fully-funded and free, has an army of coaches at each training session, top-notch facilities, and is a completely different experience than a local nonprofit youth club.
It's too bad that Ben Billups kid wasn't a girl. Thorns Academy could actually use a sugardaddy, given that Peregrine isn't willing to fund them on an equal basis as Timbers Academy. (And it's understandable why, given the economics of both men's and women's pro soccer). But absent that, Thorns, CU, GPS, and FCSC are all just youth soccer clubs, some whose delusions of grandeur are more sever than others.
