2 at every position seems fair. That's low 20s. Anything more is cray cray.

Right, and only 1.5 of them will see PT. That leaves 15 on the bench as wind blockers during those cold October night games.

Some coaches also have a policy of not cutting seniors so there could be an overflow of seniors who won't play much. It's obviously too big but in HS there's much more involved (again, parents). Plenty of college rosters are that big too.

              Gotta love HS "soccer"!!!
Same rosters sizes as CFCU. What's your point?

Over 100 kids showed up at tryouts so bigger rosters. Also, some Seniors that just want to be involved. Again, please concern yourselves with your own teams and children.

Someone was telling me how many high level club players they have and it's pretty crazy. Of course a coach isn't going to want to put them on JV. Even if they're bench warmers they still challenge the starters in practices and there's enough for full scrimmages. With HS a bunch will be injured in a few weeks anyway.

Our coach told us all, before tryouts even began, that he would carry no more than 32 field players between varsity and JV. He keeps all the keepers, if they come fit and have basic ability. Players move up and down all season, giving them a chance to get varsity minutes and fill out the bench.

Still too many ... you don’t need three full teams for JV and Varsity

Some schools don't have quite enough for a frosh team so then they have bigger JV and V as a result (obviously not the case at Staples). There's always a certain amount of attrition also, on top of injuries.

I disagree. Provides suitable depth for the varsity and ample depth for the JV players to work in sufficient numbers to actually do some full field stuff. Two or three injuries and you are in the high 20s.

32 between two squads is actually very reasonable. Most times V and JV play games at the same time so that's 16 give or take per team per game.

Not to mention many of the kids will have other activities competing for time - studies, clubs, band, pt job, etc. Pays for the coach to be prepared in case a lot of kids suddenly cannot make the game.
