Why does Alaska always need Oregon girls to fill their teams? Seems strange they would travel out of state to tournaments when they don't have enough kids

Just bring a few more players from Alaska. Must be nice for the Alaskan players that get left off the team so they can add Oregon players.

No one get left off the Alaska team. In case you weren't aware, travel from Alaska is very expensive. Many of their families opt to save their soccer dollars for events that are a little more challenging and high profile than Friendship Cup. So Oregon gives Alaska some players to replace the ones who opt out.

Then open it up to other Alaskan players that didn't make ODP team. Guarantee you they could find at least 16 players at each age group that are actually Alaskan. It's not about winning by, it's about opportunity & development. Or do the Alaskans simply realize Friendship Cup is only a money grab?

ODP would never do that. It would damage their rep when the non ODP girls did as well or better than the ODP girls.

Friendship cup has fallen so far from just a few years ago. Lesser quality than even quarterfinals of state cup. Dang. Why?

Because the best players in other states do ecnl, leaving ODP for the leftovers. ODP will be completely gone within 5 years. Friendship Cup won't last that long.

Those 2001 parents think it's because their children are superstars. Oregon ODP will remain long after ODP is dead in other states. OR parents refuse to believe that oysa & ODP have fallen to the depths of mediocrity. At least we're still better than Alaska.

Has anyone ever looked into how other states run their ODP programs?

Alaska- small registration fee
Colorado- no cost to player (other than travel fees)but must be recommended to tryout by a coach or asked to tryout by ODP staff
Cal north: must have coach recommendation tryout fee of $125


Why is Oregons so much more expensive??? Why do they pretty much take anyone who try's out????
