Isn't GPS Oregon all about funneling money from unsuspecting parents back to FC Bayern?

No. Same price as any other club around town. Seems they have a good training process and program that should enable growth for both players and coaches. Isn't that what everyone is always complaining about on this site, lack of development? Because there is no consensus best approach here in Oregon, seems worth a shot to me. Knock it all you want, make it your new thing to hate on (because the ECNL/TA/CU/FCP hate is getting old).

Not really. But it is a different way to give elite players exposure. GPS will form national teams to travel to the big tournaments, e.g. Las Vegas College Showcase, Disney's Soccer Showcase, Surf Cup, or the Dallas Cup.

Maybe one or two players would be selected from a specific region or state to play on the GPS national team for these premiere events.

And this is in affiliation with Hillsboro Soccer Club? Or is there another club in Oregon that is also affiliated with GPS?

Are HSC and GPS the same club/teams or are they different?

HSC is the official club, GPS Portland is the affiliate. GPS Portland will train in a different spot. Teams are different. HSC has a different tryout schedule (listed on their website).

Problem is getting into these big tournaments is not easy. You have to have success history and big club name they like and then they will tell you if they let you in or not. And if they do it will be on a lower level.

GPS is the for profit piggybacking off the HSC non-profit to enter leagues, tournaments, take donations. Pretty slick.

How did Thorns Academy tryouts look? What clubs had representation?

Hard to believe but worse than last year.

That cannot be right - they have been doing hardpress on some folks met through ODP (to the point of really annoying some of our coaches who recommended ODP).
