You can be a mediocre student and still get recruited to Stanford. If you are an athlete who they think will help win them a title, they are will to ignore a LOT. With HYP, athlete recruits HAVE to be within a fraction (exact fraction is internal to the school) of one SD of the mean of the admitted students to get in. This is even tougher than the other ivy league schools. In other words you may have the AI to get into Brown for example, but can be rejected by HYP.

True. Yale's men's lacrosse team is excellent.

Don’t forget the important fact of the timeline differences. Stanford can and will make an offer before a kid has even taken their PSATs whereas HYP can’t even give a non binding read never mind an offer until after at least the first SAT. Sets up a bird in the hand type of scenario where the family has to either accept the money from Stanford or roll the dice and hope their kid fits into the particular Ivy’s AI calculation that year. Most taken the money and run.

Don't kid yourself. At HYP the team has to be within a standard deviation, not every kid.

What makes the whole thing even more difficult is the equation is based upon the whole recruiting class not just the individual player. Functionally what that means is a NT level talent can get in with a low as a 3.0 but the coach needs to nance that off with a player with perfect grades and scores so the average works out correctly. It’s one of the nuances that results in head scratchers getting recruited by Ivies.

that what I said. the one SD refers to the league rule. HYP is considerably more strict than that

You are wrong, Chris. Or you are deliberately misleading folks. Each Ivy has its own AI. So, yes, the AI at Harvard is higher than Brown or Dartmouth.

What was wrong about what I said, Dorothy?
