How so? when your kid accomplishes something special, you dont enjoy the moment and are happy for them?

not the poster - absolutely enjoy the moment and cherish. It's a blast and a great feeling to see your kids and teammates so happy. But don't live your life through your kid's accomplishments. Also, some parents never move on from their own high school athletic prowess. They're just as sad.

That’s a fair statement but the op didn’t exhibit any anything untoward. Stated his daughter won it didn’t say we
You can be proud of the accomplishment without being unhinged
Just like you can be so invested in it that you do disputable things like call out kids

Said the Westport moms at the year end banquet!

Look, it is an accomplishment, but let’s be honest. No banner gets hoisted in the staples gym. No plaque, no trophy, no nothing but the 1 seed. The fciac site itself only recognizes the winners of the regular season divisions (defined as best record in the divisions, which is strictly arbitrary and means nothing itself) not the overall season best record. The 1 seed gets you a home game and the opportunity for a favorable path to the championship game, no draft pick, no nothing.

Staples has become a stronger contender and a tougher match, but they still haven’t gotten over the hump, the one that puts you in the record books.

Making it to two state finals may portend future success and may result in a breakthrough like Ridgefield for example. It could also mean you are just fairfield warde, although to be fair, they did share the fciac title with a tie the year they made a state final and fell off to irrelevancy thereafter. Not for a lack for talent, but because of poor coaching vs it’s peers, ie st joes, Ridgefield, etc

                Staples:

Boys State titles in each decade:
                '63, 67, 69
                '70, 71, 72, 73, 78
                '81, 82
                '93
                '09
So, two title in the last 37 years, and one title in the last 26. Seems like this program has gone off the rails.

                Girls State titles:
                1989

For all the talk about how great Staples/Westport soccer is, it seems both high school programs have underachieved.

Female athletes at Staples better off doing tennis or field hockey.....successive state titles in each sport.

It's funny that Staples has not performed. When you talk to MK or go to a Beachside meeting you hear about how all the top Westport players are at BS and don't play for Staples. MK always talks about how if the Westport BS players play HS in the fall, Staples will win the championship every year.

Everyone with half a brain knows it's hogwash but that story still seems to attract players to BS. MK who runs Westport travel decimated that program because he poached the top players for BS. So the Westport Blue teams which used to dominate travel are all barely competing.

Staples is always competitive but objectively it is possible that adding 2-3 academy players to the varsity roster may make them stronger but i doubt it would get them to the state championship.

A year ago after one of the BS meetings, a dad asked MK if his son could "take the fall off" so he could play with his friends in HS. I didn't hear which HS but likely Staples or some other FC program. MK flipped out. He was practically screaming that he doesn't want some crap HS coaches to "ruin his kids". He said, he could field a team with the weakest BS bench players and blow out any local HS varsity team by a dozen goals. The parent was flabbergasted. I think the kid ended up leaving BS.

There is no kid out there who chose to play for beach side over staples. Stop talking BS

Where is the AD in all of this? Time for a reboot.

back in the day, I agree. Today and over say the last 4 years, BS bench players could not beat St Joes, Staples or Ridgefield varsity hs team. I doubt a starting BS girls team could beat one of them to be honest
