That's not how recruiting is working these days. Because of deferrals and gap years there are *fewer * spots for players over the next few years.

Schools are cutting teams but mostly the less popular ones like swimming, golf. Yes current athletes are grandfathered - it's the right thing to do - so all the school saves on initially is staffing.
They really should be D3 at least for soccer. They might be competitive. I will grant you the women are better then the men but they still suck. Women’s soccer sucks with the exception of the top 5 international teams and then it is barely watchable.
