Yes we all got it's athletic $ doosh. Poster's comment that $15K isn't that special in the women's side is correct. The OP said it was for a Patriot league school which aren't the nation's most elite schools either. Good but not "top" schools (Colgate excepted). Definitely not top soccer programs. No one will scoff at $60K off in total, but more can be had if your student athlete shops themselves around effectively. For some student athletes that amount isn't motivating enough for the D1 commitment.

15K off 70K tuition a year......still about 40-50K over priced for a school like Holy Cross, Loyola, American, BU, even your precious Lafayette, Bucknell, etc. Army and Navy are the exceptions

A NESCAC education is on par with an Ivy education. The Patriot League has been successful at selling the delusion of being just as good as Ivy and NESCAC. It is not at the same level, despite what parents keep repeating to themselves to justify the price tag.

My non athlete senior is getting $12-$20k off from the schools he's been admitted to so far. Almost no one pays full price except the most elite schools or if you barely make the admissions cut. Be well above their average student and you can get even more.

Unless it's not a fully funded program 15K off for soccer is one step above practice cone. Yes it all helps but you hardly won the lottery.
You realize that most top schools don’t give merit money right? Your kid probably isn’t going to a great school or you are poor.

Top-top no. But plenty of very good ones do. For some families a steep discount is worth a slight step down academically not go deep into debt, even more solid grad school is in the picture. Most soccer families make too much for much financial aid, whichbthr very top schools especially Ivies are generous with.

As the other poster was talking about Patriot league "top" academics don't apply

This post wins the board for today. There has never been a statement that so accurately sums up the mindset of NESCAC parents.

Every student at NESCAC schools have a pile of rejection letters from the Ivy League schools. There’s no doubt that the schools are good academically, however they thrive on the fabricated elitism that is driven by the parents.

Look at the rosters, 95% of the kids attended 50k a year private schools. This is simply the next step in the evolution. These schools only have enrollments of roughly 2000 students and they bank on arrogant *****s like you to drop 75k annually. In addition to the financial commitment, they also count you proclaiming your kid going to Bates easily could have gone to Dartmouth but preferred the location and size. These school are of course equal!

Lastly, it’s no secret that these schools do not discount. The formula is simple they count on people like you to pay 75k a year no questions asked. This lets them some money at a few working class families. This allows them to have diversity and by diversity I mean people that don’t have summer homes.

Are you also the same guy who believes that athletics are on par as well?

For most people getting an undergrad degree with little to no debt is the goal. Use ur money for grad school

Ding ding ding. More professions require a graduate degree these days so coming out of undergrad with no debt is big. Or just some manageable debt is fine. What your professional plans are matter as well - certain majors will lead you to higher paying professions over others.

Said no one ever. Of course Patriot isn't Ivy, but neither is NESCAC.

So tell me more about why FSA is bad. Feel like this is the same thread as LK committing to Stanford and one about some all American.

What system does FSA typically play?

Bro...net price for Middlebury is ~23K after aid. Look at the Holy Cross Patriot league cost. Then look at the kid from Choate (60K a year cost for kids that dont have parents teaching there) playing on the roster. Would you drop that kind of coin on a hs to end up paying in 5 games in 4 years for a HC education, even if they gave you 15K off the 72K tuition a year? Same goes for the kid up at colgate who went to the 42K per year HS (Hopkins). I would rather spend the 23K on middlebury. just saying bro....don't hate the player, hate the game

It’s stunning how stupid you are.

23k net price is driven entirely by financial aid. Plug in your AGI on the calculators on any of these schools website and you’ll have your cost. Families that send kids to private high schools generally have household incomes of 200k or more on the low end. Those families don’t get aid unless they have four other kids also in college

An example of someone ending up paying 23k for a NESCAC school would be two school teachers which a bright child. They would get massive aid packages at any of the schools mentioned

So slow your roll “Bro” as you clearly have no clue.

Most soccer families fall into that middle-to-upper income bracket that make too much for Financial Aid but sometimes not enough to pay full boat for college. It's even worse here in the pricey NE where incomes are higher due to cost of living but really you're just kind of middle class.

If there was a way to delete posts here you should. This is stunningly misinformed

Colgate has a net cost of 23k, HC is 29k

To dumb it down for you, net cost is what poor people pay.

So if you have the money and love a school like Lehigh and they give you a partial athletic award of 20k, that’s the best discount you’ll get unless of course you qualify for need based financial aid

Many families use UConn’s cost as a benchmark. If you can get enough money at private school (scholarship) then it typically makes sense

Either way your examples and understanding of how this all works are way off the Mark. Talk with your club coaches they know how it all works
