That's the political end of it. Happens every year.
To be fair, this was the senior's last shot. The junior could get given the honors the next season.

Maybe, maybe not. Things happen beyond anyone’s control. Injuries, global pandemics, etc. The awards should go to the most deserving regardless of grade.

Maybe you have a point there. Maybe the senior will get held back to repeat 12th grade. Do we know the school?

Good well respected coaches get the respect due
Good and well respected players get chosen
Less popular schools and players have not made an impression

That's definitely a good point. There are kids every year that miss seasons due to injury. Injuries don't discriminate based on grade. It's unpredictable.

Kids aren't staying back to have another year of high school soccer! Unfortunately injuries are part of the game, it's seemingly worse for senior players because they don't have the promise of bouncing back the following year and most don't move onto college soccer.

Having watched many HS games last year, when the all state list came out, I only agreed with about 1/2 of the selected. If a school has more then 1 top player it is very difficult to get 2 selected and impossible to get 3. A school like Farmington or Glastonbury might have 3 deserving players some years but never get it. Then a lesser player from more remote areas gets it just to “spread it out”. My experience is based on boys LL.

The all-state and all-region thing is political. Sure, the kids are decent, but often not the best.

In your expert opinion, how “often”?

99.45% of the time. Margin of error is 0.7%.

                        Now that’s a BS statement
The top 5 kids in the state are on that list every year
So the best always get on

Just decent? Not often the best? I'd guesstimate 2/3 are very deserving, 1/3 a bit less so. It’s not and can never be a perfect system but it's pretty good.

It will never be accurate because it heavily favors forwards and midfielders.
