    Official Visits

DD (2020) top choice (out of state - midwest) school invited her to visit this fall to meet the team, attend a game, etc. This is after she attended their ID camp last weekend she was personally invited to after they watched play at a showcase. The feedback from the ID camp was very positive and the coaches told her she would make a great addition to the team. Is it reasonable to believe she will be getting an offer?

If they have invited her to go and booze it up with what would be her future teammates, the answer is yes. Unless she, or they, do something crazy.

To original poster - congrats sounds like a possible success story - enjoy the moment ( see not all TS posts have to be negative)

Congratulations on the invitation. An official visit means they are picking up the cost of your travel and visit. If that’s the case, it’s a big step forward in the process, but remember it’s not the end so be careful not to get too ahead of yourself and do something dumb. It’s just a job interview - they want to get to know you and you definitely want to get to know them before there is an offer or your acceptance. When I went through this with my D, she actually decided she DIDN’T want to go to one of her target schools after the official visit. You really need to look and listen and ask pointed questions to see if it’s a good fit.

A friend's kid came back from an official visit at her "dream" school totally turned off by the girls on the team. Ended up committing at a different school. Now, this kid was picking from great soccer/academic schools, so first world problems, but just passing along similar story.

As others have said - YES, this is good news, but the timing for a 2020 is concerning.

            2 Questions:
            1. Are they offering TO PAY for this Official Visit?
If so, that is a scarce resource, so there is real interest. If they are merely saying "please visit and we will pair you up"... that's less of a commitment

            2. Are you hoping for some type of offer beyond admission assistance?
If D3 then admissions help is all you get, but if D2 or D1 then it is reasonable for your D to ask the Coach:
            a) Where they stand with their 2020 Class - How many are already committed?
            b) What role they are hoping she will play?
            c) Are they planning to make an offer before (the visit is a sales job) or after (they visit is a team interview)

First world problems indeed, but you should know answers to all the above questions before getting on a plane and delaying decision on other offers

Most schools, at least the one's my D visited, only had the official after the players had committed. They all came in during the same weekend. But, they had already done unofficial visits with sleepovers. Of course, this was also under the old recruiting rules.

Makes sense. Official is team building. Unofficial was recruiting.
Why I have concerns about 2020 waiting till fall

Yes if they want her out there then yes they are interested, however this seems very late for a 2020. Most schools have their 2020 recruiting class sewn up by now (most 2020a were recruited in 2018).

They will probably have hot male groupies for her pleasure as well .... oh, sorry, they do that for football and basketball only.

You'd be surprised what they do.

There are different rules for different recruits. My D's school just had one who comes from a very strict & religious mid-west upbringing and the coaches made sure there was no partying allowed around her.

Why would anyone want to go there?
