SCA is telling people they are being sponsored by another club for OYSA and that it’s taken care of. But they were denied on the basis of a partnership with Hollywood Soccer, so how are they able to do it with another club? I would want to see written confirmation that is approved by OYSA before signing up for something like this.

They should talk to Hillsboro. I think they know those guys.

If anyone shows up for tryouts and commits any amount of money to this "club" without getting an answer FROM OYSA (not this stupid board) you deserve the fleecing you'll be getting.

          Or Oregon United FC.

Or NiCH. They could get a good deal on uniforms.

It was Hollywood that was going to do the partnership? LOL, heard it was a PYSA rec club, but that cracks me up.

Not affiliated with gps in any way but know that other clubs don’t want that 03 team to stay together and keep beating everyone. If you don’t like the coach, don’t play for them. Same goes for the coach that left Thusc. OYSA via politics or other clubs deciding who can and can’t play (because they don’t want the competition) is BAD for all of us soccer consumers! Let them join and let the market decide. We will all be better off in the long run.

With all due respect, I think you're missing the point. Players can play wherever they want to. There have to be standards on the coaches and the clubs.

Completely agree. If an upstart is financially sound, well managed, and has coaching and field assets in place, let them join. A little competition is good for everyone. The current state is somewhat monopolistic

You probably answered the question. You put in standards, financially sound, well managed, coaching, field assets.......

If you don't have these don't let them join.

I don't know these clubs nor have I reviewed the application but that is what OYSA is there for. There are plenty of places to play. Someone committed on GPS 03 girls. GPS isn't going anywhere, it sounds like they have committed to HSC and plan on growing.

The two teams playing for a state cup are in good hands. I would think at least one if not both will be going to regional's. HSC is stable and will be able to support them both.

Yes, totally agree with your criteria and any other criteria OYSA has about growing the game, etc. The point is that GPS is not the shining example of a financially sound, well managed club that has coaching and field assignments. For any new club, how do you evaluate whether they have these things. All GPS ever had was MJ and 2 pretty good teams. That and a website are not good enough.

                        Market Decide?

Should "let market decide" be the answer when dealing with a bunch of 501(c)(3)s?

Can't think of another example involving non-profits or education where an unregulated, absolutist free-market is the solution.

And for the current OYSA clubs, where's the oversight for coaching standards? Some of the coaching provided by member OYSA clubs is simply horrific. The same standards need to be applied to all clubs.

Why does is have to be a non profit model? There are only 2 states in the entire country that have the non-profit constraint, why is it needed?

Ironically, at the same time few states have lower club standards than Oregon. Good luck getting into Washington's RCL back in the day, even if an established club, particularly in an area with another existing RCL member.

To answer your question - I don't know that OYSA should be limited to non-profits. But it is today and even if you opened it up to for profits, you still have a large number a non-profits and education/child focus. I can't think of any setting where you have those aspects and you let everything be dictated by the market.

The over site is really pretty minimal. Most industries that deal directly with the public have standards they need to meet to protect the people that contribute to them, ie schools and pre schools that take care of our kids have over site to ensure safety.
