Male/Female and coaching license don't mean a whole hell of a lot in my book. My kids have all had great male and female coaches. AND they've had terrible male and female coaches. They've had brilliant coaching from "D" licensed coaches and terrible coaching from "A" licensed coaches.

Point is that, in my opinion, there's no real point to this thread.

Good coaching is good coaching whether they be male, female, "D", or "A".

Find a good coach and stick with them as long as you're able.
The point isn’t that any individual female coach is necessarily better than any individual male coach. That’s clearly not the case.

The issue is that soccer coaching is as male-dominated as any profession there is, and even more so at the doc/TD level. As in other professions that have sought to address the same issue, the institutions within the field aren’t doing enough to attract, train, develop, and retain female coaches, they end up excluding a significant portion of the population of potentially strong coaches. There are effective leadership, management, teaching and coaching styles that are more prevalent among (but not exclusive to) women. While some male leaders in organizations are good at recognizing those effective approaches to the job, others aren’t. There are more than enough dinosaurs around, and it is great that some clubs are putting an emphasis on identifying and developing more female coaches.

      SU Female Coaches

      SU Female Coaches:

      Olivia Lee
      Jules Sackeyfio
      Jenn Ireland
      Nikki Washington
      Theresa Romagnolo
      Brooke Reece (director)
      Isa Whalen
      Chelsea Stout
      Lisa Bloom
      Rachel Eckerlin
      Mindy Dalziel (coaches boys side)

Thats 11, and does not include the gk trainier who is also a female.

This forum provides comedic relief, but is not a source of real information. Some people need to get a hobby.

SU seems to have made some significant progress on that front in the past year or so (since RR came on board as girls director), but the track record beforehand wasn’t very good and they still have a lot of work to do. That’s still fewer than 10% of their total number of coaches, right?

11 from how many total coaches? 70+?

It's a great list, however, proportionally across the club its not a high percentile and that is what people are having issue with (not just SU)

If it were 11 from 75 total coaches (for example) then that would represent 15% of the total staff being female.

One of SU's female coaches (BR) told her teenage players they had cellulite, so...just being female doesn't make you a great coach

We are talking about club soccer coaching positions and not business executive positions.

Maybe most women mature and figure out that being a soccer club coach is not an ideal career for adults and choose not to take this path.

Sounds a like what bros have always said to try to rationalize the status quo in any other male dominated profession.

Probably because so many young girls dream of making $20K - $30K per year coaching youth soccer.

A director can make 100k +, and mid-level directors make 60k plus. The payscale isn’t as high as some professions, but it isn’t bad for doing something you love. But go ahead, keep trying to defend the “clubs shouldn’t do more to identify, develop, and retain more female coaches” hill.

That is great, but that also means you have to spend a certain amount of time making only $25K to $30K a year to get your chance at the $60K to $100K job.

How many women LOVE doing this and want to continue this life style. How many women end up marrying a spouse that support them in this career path? Unfortunately most women are willing to make sacrifices for their husband's career than the other way around.

I am sure most club would love to have more qualified candidates for these higher level position. Qualification and experience do need to play a part to getting a job.

All their women coaches have yet to coach for them, and are mostly slated to coach PSPL teams, not their DA teams. But where do other clubs stand in terms of female coaches? This is what I found on club websites for 2019-2020 - looks like Pac is the club with the most female coaches of the clubs I looked at, and their women coaches are coaching top teams.

I think it means Main stream media, in this instance.
