You gotta wonder why the 5 foot tall girl raised her hand and said I'm a goalie

And now we have given up 12 goals in 2 games. Kid, you stood in the wrong line.

Your team's defense is terrible, then. It's not just the goalkeeper's fault!

Just what youth soccer needs - another dbag parent that blames team losses on the GK. Start with telling your kid to stop making mistakes on the field that leads to shots on goal. Then tell your kid to go in net and see how challenging the position is.

Far and away the two best goalies I ever played with were both All-Americans. One was 5'-9", the other was 6'4". Both unbelievable. Smaller goalie had advantages the other didn't, but even he would tell you all things being equal he'd rather have been 6'4"

That being said...he was told he was too small for his entire career and he stuck with it and excelled.

Yes, especially at the U-13 age when kids first hit the big field and nets, there can be problems. It's called development, right? That eases over time.

What age was this rant directed at?

High school aged club team. 3 honest goals, say 4 due to midfied errors and injuries to key defensive players but 5 attributable to a short keeper with bad hands that is slow off her line. She generally coughs up 2 in the first half which takes the wind out of the sails of the field players. The fact that this was the only keeper this big 3 club could recruit and field for this age group is sad.

So, none of these errors are attributed to her height? Midfield errors, injuries to defensive players, bad hands, slow off her line....

Playing keeper, and I've played hundreds of games, is thankless. It's what you sign up for, but the reality is this thread could easily be about your midfield errors and how thin your defense is and how your team gets deflated too easily; instead, it's about the goalie's height.

No wonder nobody wanted to sign up for it. Kids hear the sideline grumbling when they make a mistake. And, it's 10x worse when it's a goalie because it ends up in the back of the net when they f-up.

More pathetic is you blaming the GK - a child btw - for the loss. Blame the club for poor recruiting and poor training. Blame the field players for their mistakes. GKs make mistakes but are rarely the sole cause for a loss, especially a large margin loss. Even a stud GK will let in a few if they're getting shelled.

Try keeping the ball on the front half of the field for a little bit. Is this an FSA parent?

as a parent of a keeper, it's outrageous that you'd post this. You don't think he/she takes every goal like a dagger to the heart? And now some DB on the sidelines is calling him/her out on the internet? There's 11 kids on the field, it takes eff-ups from 10 of them before the 11th lets the ball into the net. I'd punch you in the face if you ever said this garbage to me on the sideline. God bless that keeper.

No offense, but your kid needs to lighten up. "A dagger to the heart?" That kind of mental approach is unhealthy. Have her quit soccer now, for her own good.

ok, too much hyperbole, sorry! My point was that this "god awful" keeper suffers with each goal - they're not out there letting all this in and not feeling like they're letting everyone down.
