2017 ODP Girls Thanksgiving Interregional in Boca

    Schedules and Rosters are out:

    http://www.usyouthsoccer.org/schedul...nterregional_/

The Thanksgiving Interregional annually attracts many college coaches, as well as several U.S. Soccer scouts. The talent on display from each team allows coaches and scouts to evaluate players in an environment similar to what they will face at the next level of play.

Historically, the US Youth Soccer ODP Girls Thanksgiving Interregional has featured many of the players who have gone on to represent the United States at the international level including players such as Alex Morgan, Sydney Leroux, Tobin Heath, Christen Press, Mallory Pugh and Crystal Dunn.

That South 00/01 Roster is bizarre!

So these are supposed to represent that top players from a 12-State area?

17 out of 18 girls list a Graduation Year
      3 - 2018
      9 - 2019
      5 - 2020

Why combine 00/01 - these are the prime recruiting years? And if you're going to combine, why have 5 2020s?

And for the 2018s - they are 3 of the top soccer players in the 12 state Region 3 and they are not committed yet - that should have happened last year for them?

Through the years ODP has done some "strange" things but this makes no sense.

The 2020's are 2001's. Agree should not have combined the top two recruiting years and brought a U19/U18 and a U17 team from each region because that's how US Youth Soccer organizes its age groups. Also believe there are too many talented players in a region and each region should send two teams in each age group to Boca.

They should include what state the player is from or what club?

Some Regions do that but Region III is very secretive about what players are affiliated with what clubs because it starts to shine light on the cockroaches in ODP. Dirty little secret in ODP is that it is a fairly corrupt system in regards to what players get selected to play at the higher level events.

12 states and 18 roster spots. Then combine 2000 and 2001. It is hard not to have the ODP dream squashed.

A lot of truth to that. ODP claims that the entire system is set up to identify talent to "play at the next level" but when the players finally get to the age where they are read to go "to the next level" they cut the number of teams down to nothing.

And that is where the rampant corruption creeps in.

Last year they kept the oldest ages 1999 and 2000 separate. Why they would combine the top recruiting years 2000 and 2001 for a whole region is beyond stupid. I can see why even the younger girls would look at this and say why do ODP if it will come to a few Florida girls getting to make Inter-regionals.

People will say corruption sets in but many of the older girls have been doing ODP since they were very young. These players get evaluated over and over by State coaches, Region coaches and college coaches during the summers. It can be the cumulative effect of many evaluations and knowing the player over time. Many started on third or second Florida teams and worked their way up. Combining Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors onto one team from 12 states would be impossible without looking at the cumulative evaluations and who might be the proven best in a field position.

ODP does need to think about its mission, developing and giving the players opportunities to be seen and recruited to college and national teams. It should make the Boca Showcase something great and invite more players so more college coaches and scouts will attend. If the four Regions sent a 1999-2000 and a 2001 team it would only be adding 72 more total girls to the event.

The system is flawed; as an example- on the 03 'south' team, 12 out of 18 girls are from FL. The coach of the south team is a college coach of a mid-tier school in FL. Although its great for the girls from our state to get this recognition, of course the coach is trying to develop rapport and potentially recruit the FL girls to his school. No way those girls are the top 12 in the entire southeast when the club teams they play on are very mediocre to just bad. The coach knows he won't get the top talent from tophat or concorde and he knows how to work the system; ODP has run its course.

You do realize at Region Camp in Alabama the fields are lined with coaches evaluating the players. The Region coach would have a final say but would have to be looking at the player evaluations too. There are a lot of talented ODP players in a big state like Florida with a well run ODP state program sending three teams in some age groups to the region camp in Alabama. But politics in everything and do see how there could be some bias.

ODP should hold practices in a centralised Florida location but both of the December ODP practices are being held in Fort Myers. ODP must think it is accomodating a new market where there is no DA or ECNL.

yes. I am very well aware of how this all works. As a side note, there are between 1-3 FL players on every other age groups 'south' team. Every other team has a blend of players from many states. There are 12 players from FL on the 03 team. That is not, statistically, insignificant. Regardless, congrats to those girls who got the opportunity. I hope they make the most of it
