I don't see an issue with 3rd party coaches, as long as they are clearly qualified to assess players.

But they have to see the players over a time period that ensures the quality kids rise to the top. In an open tryout situation, with coaches not familiar with the players, I'd want to have at least 6 hours of observation. That's like 4 session, 90 minutes long. It could require even more if the numbers are large.
I am going to assume you are only talking club. For club, 70%+ of spots are already accounted for when those trying out show up so you really only need two 90 minute sessions at most.

The player rankings are ridiculous. These are used to try to placate the masses but it pisses them iff more in our town because the results are never even close to right and can not be used to justify anything. Even more annoying is that the teams of the board members come out just like they wanted them which is usually the exact same as last season. If you are going to do valid rankings and scoring make them available to the parents. Hi-lite their kid and mask the names of all of the others to show them how their kid fared vs their peers which shows sttengths and things they need to work on. And make sure when the rosters come out that the board members kid who can walk and chew gum isnt in the A roster ahead of a decent little player that needs some work (which also always happens ..... Its why everyone in our town gets involved on boards ..... So they can get their kids onto A teams).
Now you realize it does not matter whether little Johnny is ranked #4 or #6 or #8 on the team as they will all make the team. You release results to the parents and it is going to matter whether Johnny is ranked #4 or #6 or #8. Why create drama by releasing stuff like that.

Our town club did assessments internally and it was fraught with politics and who you know type decisions in spite of the assessors being other coaches in the org. Coaches could basically override the assessor decisions so in the end it was really a waste of everyones time for a lot of teams. if you bring in independent assessors, I would think it would be better unless you have 5 assessors trying to assess 400 kids on 20 teams in 4 nights in which case it might be a crapshoot. But I do not think theres a foolproof way of doing it without a kid somewhere falling through the cracks or being assessed inappropriately.

Replace the parent coaches with credentialed coaches leading some of these organizations and I think you have a much better system (but fees go up a few hundred each year).

If you can't justify them and are afraid to publish them then they probably arent worth the time and effort no one put into them.

Are everyone's annual reviews and salary and/or bonus decisions at your place of employment published so everyone can review them?

Stop being such a jerk. Especially to someone who comes on here with an honest question. They are still adding to some CT teams.
