Thread op said his kid is smaller, still growing and seems to be in that gangly growth period where teens are still adjusting to the changes their bodies are going through. That isn't a time you want them in front of coaches. You rarely get a second chance. As a freshman she still has plenty of time. The aim of all the NCAA changes - new and soon to be passed - is to greatly reduce 8th and 9th grade recruiting. Sophomore year into junior year becomes the sweet spot. Long term that is better for the student athlete and for the programs.

My suggestion to that freshman girl is to go out develope her game, have fun doing it and not worry about size, just yet. If she lands at D3, that's where she belongs. If she lands D1, again, the system will find her. I believe players land where they land because of skill and commitment.

      Good luck to her.
Yes and I also seen that same early developer just keep on developing and never look back. A lot of it comes down to 1) Genetics and 2) the work ethic parents instill in them. You can actually project quite a bit based upon current trajectory and don't have to wait until the tail end of the game to chart your kid's course.

Coaches know what they are looking at. It's their job to understand the impact of puberty on child development when they are recruiting children. It's not that hard to figure out who is going to lean out and who is going to fill out. Look at Mom & Dad.

ooofff....I think you're giving coaches too much credit. If only it were that easy to distinguish between size and athleticism vs skill. Not many can do it well.

You must be one of the arrogant club coaches who frequent this site. If a college coach can't identify talent and recruit it in these days of early recruitment they aren't typically employed long. Probably why you are a club coach.

Ok mom and dad. try to look act and dress as tall, athletic, and coordinated as possible when drooping off your kid at the showcase. be sure to strut around in view of the coach!

No one is safe from your disparagement. Seriously, what are you really good at (as an adult) and aside from your star kid? Posting on TS? Taking the clients out for smoke breaks? Eating at the snack bar all day at Forekicks?

Not sure this is fair. I have a 2020 going through the process who was similar to Ops kid and is being recruited by D1 schools. In 9th grade zero coaches she reached out to came to her games. Summer after her sophomore year, dd wrote the same coaches and they came out and watched during summer tournaments. After Sept. 1, two of the schools she wrote back in 9th grade and never got back to her watched her last summer contacting her directly bypassing her club. She’s talking with multiple schools right now.

This is true based on the age you describe. However, if you're age appropriate for what would be more typical interest and people aren't showing up it isn't a good sign. A sophomore girl this year should hope to see coaches at spring events this year and invites to summer ID events..

This was in response to BTNT implying op was targeting incorrectly. For MOST players, coaches won’t give them a serious look unto 10th grade Spring.
