The real driver for the split was pressure from clubs. At u16, there will be a lot of cuts, so it is better to keep full rosters at the younger ages.

Finances? the players will pay to be in this league. what do they have to worry about other than how much they can squeeze out these families?

gotta admit. i hadn't thought about how clubs will 'sell' their various levels now. gda for a club that has both is another positive. they now have development at youth ages leading to a choice between gad, ecnl and npl so they can accommodate all levels of skill and commitment.

2 or 3 sport athletes? sure.

        soccer 24-7? got it.

stay local with a couple regional tournaments? yup.

national travel on a regional level team? if your kid is good enough, yes.

while us insane parents discuss the impacts incessantly, smart club administrators are opening additional bank accounts for the new inflows of cash.

Strictly on PR and marketing, ECNL still advertise themselves as a USSF sanctioned league and member right? Why would you sanctioned a organization or league that opposed you.

Some of the players in the ECNL are customers they are seeking for the GDA. Why bash the league these players have been enjoying?

Does anyone who attended the informational meetings at Stars or Breakers have a cost estimate of GDA yet? How does it compare to ECNL and NPL costs?

We were told comparable to the ECNL now with hopes to actually drop those fees in the future.

So, approximately $8-10K for the year when you include club fees, tournament travel and away game travel and accommodations?

Club fees will likely be similar or a little less than ecnl fees. Increased travel will make the out-of-pocket cost very similar. Neither league is for the cost conscious.

We paid closer to 5k this year. Not sure what kind of hotels you choose, but on the away game travel we tend to cut costs wherever we can (sharing rooms, carpooling for gas, cheaper accommodations, packing coolers with food, etc).

You paid $5k so far this year (2016-2017) and the spring competitive season and spring tournaments are still to be played, which means additional travel expenses? Sorry, it just wasn't clear from your post if that's what you meant...

Sorry, meant to say per year, as we are not through this year yet.

Not the poster. ... yes there are ways to bring down your costs but it's still a costly venture. The bigger point is GDA will only be marginally cheaper than ECNL, if even that. It will do nothing to diversify the talent pool. Families will chose between ECNL or GDA based on fit with goals etc., not price.

You all should know by now price has been used to bludgeon ECNL clubs, even when proven time and again, with actual figures, that ECNL was no more expensive, and in many cases, actually cheaper than similar alternatives. Now, horror of horrors, ECNL and GDAP will cost the same. ;) Price no longer can be used. Let's switch to access to NT coaches as well as superior, kinder, friendlier development model to differentiate the two leagues.

Just curious... which one is kinder and friendlier? And we know this how?
