      High School Participation
Academy Players currently registered with an Academy Club have committed to forgo participating in both the Academy and high school soccer. Players who participate in high school soccer are ineligible to participate in Academy practice and competition during that same season. Only players who have been granted a waiver by the League Office will be allowed to remain on their clubs Academy roster during the high school soccer season. This waiver must be received by DA office before September 1, 2018 to be considered for the roster exemption. The waiver eligibility guidelines are as follows:

Players who receive consideration or financial aid to attend a private high school based on their participation with the soccer team are eligible

      • No specific number of waivers available to a club, but that number is naturally self-limiting to field a full team throughout the Academy season 5

      • The waiver must include the following points:
      – Addressed to Academy Program from the Principal, Head Master or similar position
      – Player name and high school
      – States the player is expected to participate in high school soccer as part of their enrollment at this school and subsidized education
--States the term, semester and/or dates in which the player will be participating in high school soccer
      – Signed and dated
      – Sent to Academy Office for approval prior to the start of the high school season

      • With a waiver, the player’s roster slot will not be prorated to not include the high school season as part of their 25% start rate. A waivered player must start 25% of the team’s total games for the season.

Players registered with a Development Academy club, that do not attend a school that requires sport participation as part of their enrollment or whose waivers are not approved by the Academy office, will not be allowed to re-enter the program during the same season after participating in the high school season with their current or a different Academy Club.

Thanks for responding to my post with rules that I already clearly understand.

          Again... here's my predictions:

          1) Weston will be forfeiting games due to inability of teams to field a roster during HS season. Or maybe they bring up Black team players to take over the entire team....and get demolished and be uncompetitive.

          2) They will continue this practice and have a makeshift rosters for Winter showcase which is one of the main events of the year.

          3) Some girls will get suspended when they try and participate in both DA and HS and skirt the rules....it always gets out.

          4) Sunrise and Weston culture will clash and cause disharmony within team ranks.

All this assumes High School actually admit that players on in an athletic scholarship and sign off on the waivers in the first place....which I'm not certain will happen.

Interesting. This line is going to be tricky to get around. "A school that requires sport participation as part of their enrollment". That would mean that that school has mandatory sports participation. Which schools require this? My friend's son goes to Aquinas and he doesn't play a sport. Does Heritage has this as a requirement for financial aid? Just curious.

Varies by school. Some schools that require also make an allowance if you can prove you're participating in something athletic outside the school that makes school participation difficult.

In Florida no schools are allowed to give "athletic" schloarships.

That horse has been thoroughly beaten to death. They just call it "academic" or "merit" or "need". There's many ways to call it but reality is some kids go to some schools just because they're athletic studs.
