Originally posted by Unregistered View PostWorld Cups are KO events. Teams take differing paths to games. Dont be blinded by the result too much. Yes the USA won, but a bounce her or there changes that. They were never dominant and reverted to sit deep and try and counter vs the better teams. England blew it from the penalty spot. The narrative that because they won, they are "better" than the rest should be amended to they were better on the day and got the breaks.
If you look at the salaries paid in the NWSL, its pretty clear that US soccer has been built on College and Title 9. In Europe the foundations are being built on pro clubs. Both systems have flaws. Time will tell, but until more temas in Europe actually get involved, the sheer volume of College players will always have a chance. The NWSL is not a development league and we are seeing a two tiered system where the players with the NT golden ticket stay here and the rest go abroad for better pay and to experience the world. It not sustainable to not have your best young players playing here unless they are given assurances re NT.
USA 2, Spain 1
USA 2, France 1
USA 2, England 1
USA 2, Netherlands 0
They sure were better on the day and got a lot of breaks!

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostYeah it does since they're taking nearly all GDA kids for youth NT call ups now. They're putting all their eggs in the GDA basket. As the other poster said, that won't keep us ahead of several of the countries quickly gaining ground on us.
when it comes time ofr the first team - they will take top talent full-time pros with maybe a college player here or there..

Originally posted by Unregistered View Postagreed. I've heard him talk about formations he plays and all of them require outstanding athletes. And he does exactly what you say. He runs those amazing athletes one after another and just tires out his opponents. That's not saying his players can't play good soccer, but the fitness aspect of the game and his players takes a huge part.
