Any details on his contract? Signing bonus, amount per year, and # of years?

That is great. Hope things go well for him and they actually give him a shot on the first team. Don't care to hear they've loaned him to some USL team 2 months from now. If MLS Academies really want to be taken seriously they need to start getting their kids time on the field and not on the bench.

It's actually more like $75K. Big disparity in MLS salaries with a few players making big bucks but the rank and file making pennies in comparison. With the short career span of pro athletes that is not a lot of money - this isn't football or basketball money. You can look at salaries by teams here https://mlsplayers.org/resources/salary-guide

Congrats, early contender for D-Bag of the Year with that one (and in January no less).

Does anyone know/understand what is meant by text below; does each player possibly have two agreements?

                From site referenced above:

"These figures include compensation from each player’s contract with MLS. They do not include any compensation from any contracts with individual teams or their affiliates"

yeah, but it's not bad - while the average rookie has an average 2.5 year career and makes relatively low wages - if you're actually talented and can be a regular first team player, wages aren't terrible. using the 18/19 salary guide:

                  - 7 players made more than $5mm in total compensation
                  - 17 players > $2mm
                  - 50 players > $1mm
                  - 145 players > $500k

All players make around at least the median household income for the US.

I also don't think this includes any team-based compensation (above are MLS salaries as MLS controls all contracts) or any external comp (e.g. promotional).

How many of the 74 players at $1m+ grew up in DA? How many were former european or south american players? He would likely have made far more money overall if he got a full ride to college and then a degree.

79 players make less that $60K
                        83 makes 60.1 to $80K

You get the idea. The low paid guys aren't making a nickel on endorsements. There's a huge pay disparity gap in MLS soccer. At some clubs the top 3 players can account for 70% or more of a team's total salary. That is a sharp contrast to international tams where it's more often in the mid 30's. https://the18.com/soccer-news/mls-co...ers-salary-cap. Soccer also has the shortest average career span of any US sport, only 2.5 years https://www.americansocceranalysis.c...ingmlssalaries

Many of the high ticket players are internationals making some extra dough before they retire. You are right that it is not easy to walk away from what is likely a full ride (a player that good would get that) vs slogging it out in the MLS for a few years and maybe never making it. The true top talent heads to Europe with mixed success. The CPs of America are exceedingly rare.
