Also there is evidence that the spread is slowing but not enough data points yet to make a trend:

Click "US" (upper left of screen), then "Daily Increase" (lower right of screen). Notice the flattening on the lower chart.
Believe what you want. There isn't enough testing -- too many people getting told they can't be tested for that reason, and to just assume they have it based on the symptoms so those cases go unreported. And the decline could also be due to the the delay in getting results back. Wife of a friend's, who is a health care worker, test took 9 days (yes, 9 DAYS) to come back.

      TESTING IS NOT THE ISSUE
I have had the flu 2x in my life. I have never had a test for the flu. 50+ years
Just assume you have it. While testing may help the health care workers, but by the time they test positive, they have been contagious for sometime.

Total number of deaths is the only really important number. What will that number be at the end of this outbreak? Will it be more or less then things like the flu, auto accidents, suicides, etc.

      That will provide prospective

Fox News said it’s just the other media outlets drumming up panic to crash the economy on purpose. Fox said it’s not as bad as a regular flu so not to worry. Why are people worried?

Last year CDC estimate of Flu related deaths was 61k

It is like a bad flu season

We don’t close the country and trigger a recession for the flu

          Deep State Hoax
You really sound like a moron. The 82k would have been astronomically higher had we not incorporated things like social distancing, closing non essential businesses (malls, movie theaters, etc), closed colleges and other schools and moved to distance learning. We’ve never done any of this for the regular flu. You cannot compare the two.

How dumb can you be, really.

We will have unemployed over 35 million US citizens when this thing is done. Don't look now, but about 1 mm of your CT neighbors are about to be unemployed. Do you really live in such a bubble? How many businesses are you willing to bankrupt? The defaults on mortgages, rents have just started. This is not a recession with economic activity dropping 10%. This is a self imposed compete hard stop. I am sure you will feel good about yourself how you worked from home to help stop the spread and had a 2 month vacation to bond with your family. 90% of the citizens in this country need a functioning economy to survive. This will touch everyone, including you. I suspect you will change your mind when you are on the unemployment line and see how Sweden, Germany, Brazil and Mexico got the same results without a complete shutdown.

You call others dumb without any self realization of the absolute destruction you are endorsing. The virus is bad, and I hate that people are going to die because of it, but the costs to tame it are astronomical. Right now, you do not care because you are not paying the costs being paid by the restaurant worker, hairdresser and plumber that can't go to work. But it will all cascade, you will be paying soon enough. Check back in about 90 days and see if you feel the same way.

This person sees the big picture which most of you can’t.
This virus sucks. It will kill plenty of people here and around the world
However it will never kill close to what poverty does. The sudden stop to the economy has now thrown millions into poverty. We hope it’s short term but it’s effects will be felt for years to come. If we had done nothing 1-2 million deaths was estimated. Currently many many more then that are suffering the economic effects of shutting down.
Think of it this way. Every life has a monetary value. Government stimulus was 2.2 trillion. Estimated death toll of 2 million if we did nothing. Divide these and the government just spent 1.1 million per person try to keep these 2 million people alive. Then look at the demographics of the 2 million we are saving. Majority of these are at the end of their lives and have underlying health conditions. Every life has a monetary value. When this is over we will debate was the return on investment worth it. I am happy other nations are taking different approaches. We will see where we failed and what that cost.

Other countries are taking different approaches? They're all shutting down to varying degrees. They may be handling their economies differently but that's about it.

Your attitude is extremely callous and also wrong. This isn't just impacting the very old and sick and now we're losing nurses and doctors too. If you lost someone you cared about what is the value of their life?

Your ability to disregard and throw away the future of 35 million americans and destroy any hope they have of a stable economic position is astounding. The deaths, divorces, child abuse, sicknesses, and poverty caused by the economic solutions you endorse are on YOUR HEAD. How short sighted and callous are you? But it is only a matter of time, once this hits you economically, which it will, you will change your tune. What if jane/johnny cannot find a job despite the college education you paid for?

It is too late now, but rather than spend 2.2 trillion on this stimulus package and shut down the economy, why don't we take all vulnerable population (elderly, pre-existing) and spend 2.2 trillion to completely isolate and protect them and let the rest of the world go on. Do you really think the elderly population in this country want to leave the US in such a state of disrepair in the twilight of their lives for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The only positive thing that will come of this is we will be able to judge the impact of the US approach (complete shutdown) versus other nations that took a more moderated approach and be in a better position to react the next time.

Aren’t we , the US states, shutting down to varying degrees? So what’s your point?
We are doing some very damaging things to 100% of population financially to protect a less % of the population from the pandemic- those are facts

Those we elect determine what level of damage is tolerable or advisable . The simple truth is people are going to die no matter the course of action taken- and for them it’s a ****ty deal no matter what

The cure can’t be worse than the illness needs to be taken into consideration

Everyone is looking for someone to blame.
It is easy to scapegoat the president and other leaders
But we should look at where it started CHINA
Looking at the numbers worldwide, it is very easy to see how inaccurate the numbers from CHINA are. A conservative estimate would be to multiply the numbers out of CHINA by 100.
Now if the numbers from CHINA were timely and accurate, we would have been better prepared as would the rest of the world. CHINA mislead the world about the virus from the beginning. CHINA, through their misleading information, cost people’s lives all over the world.
We, as the rest of the world, should punish CHINA for this.

Yes we should question why our own government was so gullible to believe CHINA disinformation. But don’t forget, other nations fell for their lies as well.
