Yeah, we all know how the tryout charade works. The op raises some interesting considerations as to why it may not be business as usual this year.

None of the half wits on this thread have made a relevant response yet.

        Money-

Lot of considerations from a $ standpoint. I see the clubs needing our $ to sustain themselves and I see the parents also financially hurting from this virus. IMO lot of parents won't want to part with a $700 deposit for fall soccer right now.

        Player retention-

Do the clubs offer spots to as many of their current players for next year as possible, even players who were considered "bubble" players before this?

        Player movement-

Does this situation make it easier or harder to switch teams? I can see an argument for both. Clubs will want to keep their known commodities, making it harder to move. Flip side is clubs will likely lose some families over $ issues, so spots that were not otherwise available might open up.

        Coaching issues-

With so many coaches laid off, how many end up at different clubs when things resume, and do they poach players or whole teams from their old club to bring with them?

        Club mergers-

With the GPS chaos and the financial impact on the clubs, do we see a number of clubs merging out of necessity to survive?

        The GDA situation-

With the new leadership at the federation and other regions around the country beginning to falter, do the savvy GDA parents look to get out in front what could be the coming end to GDA and try to grab the limited ECNL spots? Sort of like the people who were smart enough to buy a month of toilet paper before the whole town showed up on the same day trying to buy the last role.

IMO the clubs who read the situation correctly will position themselves for success going forward and those who do not could do grave damage to their busninesses.

I think player retention will in part depend how clubs handle refunds. Especially tournament refunds. If a club offers nothing that is going to turn people off and they might leave the club or just take a break from club soccer all together. I know I won't let my kids play for the same club if we don't get our tournament fees back. I will also be very annoyed if they start sending out offers asking for money before they have addressed refunds.

I also agree that people will be hurting financially and thousands for club soccer won't be as much of a priority. Hopefully this will mean town/school soccer will become stronger.

I can't imagine that there will be any tryouts on May and probably not June either.

Everyone should be watching China closely to see what happens over the next couple weeks as they start getting back to normal life. If the cases spike then we know that more social distancing will be needed.

No, in the grand scheme of things club soccer is so not important. BUT it is important to our kids and it will be sad for some kids who can no longer afford to play. Clubs need to think about their families and that they too are struggling financially so holding on to tournament fees and sending out offers asking for money is just simple wrong and a little pathetic.

Fingers crossed this is all irrelevant and the kids get to start playing in a month.

The NEP has already agreed that tryouts will not happen this year. The season will run into July.

Well that makes no sense. What will they move to next year with the same teams? Some kids will take this time to work on their skills and conditioning. Others will eat potatoe chips and play video games. This may be a great equalizer for marginally motivated kids.

And some parents will be going out of their minds , that their little self motivated future Olympians are in the same boat as everyone else- not playing any real soccer to speak of. That is a great equalizer. Maybe now is a good time to stop obsessing about petty bs , such as little Mia’s kiddie soccer stats. It’s also a good time to stop living vicariously through your kids hobbies, let go of your has been glory days in high school, and get off your own butt. Get a real

Everyone on this forum complains about the cost of club soccer. All owners are greedy, uncaring pigs. Do you have any idea how much facilities charge for usage? UP is $900 per hour for a full field during the winter! Most clubs operate at minimal profit and yes, some execs pay themselves pretty high salaries, but stop with the BS about how greedy they all are.

Nope. Not all people on here are trying to inflate their kids status and one upping their kid's adolescent peers. Get a life.
