Originally posted by Unregistered View PostHS teams only play each other once. 8 games with weekends open for showcases in the spring. More teams will be added next year, but for this 20-21 season, no need for more than this. Remember, ECNL events include games that count towards standings as well

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostWith 9 teams, each home and away, that is 16 league games, plus any crossover games they might play as well as showcases. Plenty of games .... maybe too many in a short HS season unless they get 3 or 4 weekends in before winter (which they never seem to be able to do).

Originally posted by Unregistered View Post8 games is only 4 weekends if they stick to travel partners and Sat/Sun games. That's not enough for an entire year. With 15 teams, there were 14 league games. ECNL event games do not count for qualification into playoffs, only seeding once qualified.
This coming year will not allow for crazy travel, or for late fall, early spring seasons. Kids will have to attend as many ID clinics as possible to make up for a lost spring and summer season. Things will go back to normal the following year, and I predict they will add more teams in the 21-22 season.
To me, this becomes all the more reason why clubs like Oakwood and NYSC should try to get into ECNL regional league and prove themselves there.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostOf course there will be crossover games, they just probably won't include a schlepp from Massachusettes to Maryland. But a trip from World Class to Match Fit? You can bet on it.

The showcase games are also a source of contention since they impact your final seeding. It makes sense to try to have those games be evenly matched for a showcase, but then don't have them count when trying to normalize the playoff rankings.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostSome variety is good, but if crossover games impact league standings/playoff qualification then I can see some issues with how those games are paired up. If they do them like the showcases and match higher seeded teams with like then there will be some easier paths for some teams vs. others. In a situation where a single goal can mean the difference in qualifying or not, then a system where not everyone is playing the same teams is flawed.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostThis would just as interesting if it didn't count towards league. Make it a conference showcase, inviting college coaches and letting the players get more exposure. Teams could get playing time for all of their players without worrying about conference standings.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostThat's exactly what they were talking about (except the conference standings, they would count). I know on average my D's games usually got a good amount of local coaches to her games, depending on who the kids/coaches contacted. This type of thing would probably draw more without having to jump on a plane.
