    LISC Official GAL Announcement

Long Island Soccer Club is pleased today to announce its membership in the newly created Girls Academy for the upcoming 2020/21 season.

Development Academy clubs across the country have banded together to establish a new platform for its players following U.S. Soccer ending operations of the U.S. Development Academy on April 15. This unification of DA clubs has led to the creation of the Girls Academy.

With more than 65 former DA and National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) clubs, along with all eight former U.S. Soccer DA Northeast clubs including Long Island Soccer Club, committed to the new Girls Academy, this platform provides players with an opportunity to continue their growth on and off the field as they progress to the highest levels of elite soccer.

“LISC players and all players in the Development Academy were faced with uncertainty after U.S. Soccer ceased operations of the Development Academy, but many clubs took the initiative to unify in order to create this new platform and seamless transition for our players to continue their development,” said Meghan Frey, Long Island Soccer Club Girls’ Academy Director. “We look forward to the 2020/21 season in the Girls Academy and beyond.”

The biggest change in the Girls Academy is the flexibility allowing players to participate in high school soccer depending on individual club guidelines. New substitution rules will encourage clubs to better utilize their talent pools, especially when showcasing players for college scouts.

Girls Academy clubs will be broken into six conferences for the 2020/21 season: Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Mid-America, Southeast, Frontier, and Southwest. The Academy plans to have cross-conference matches, college showcases and a national championship series during its inaugural season as conferences and clubs create a schedule based on guidelines and recommendations from health and government officials during and after this pandemic.

“The new Girls Academy will uphold the highest standards and principles, all in alignment with what we do at Long Island Soccer Club,” said Gary Book, Long Island SC Academy Director. “The aim is to continue to provide the opportunity for our players to have consistent competition over 10 months.

“LISC will stay the course and make sure that true development combined with quality competition is the overarching objective to prepare our players for pathways best suited for their individual futures.”Long Island Soccer Club will offer seven age groups in the new Girls Academy for the 2020/21 season: Under-12 Pre-Academy, U-13, U-14, U-15, U-16 U-17, and U-18/19. Interested players should register for upcoming LISC Girls Academy tryouts HERE. For more information about Long Island SC, email info@longislandsc.com or call 516-622-3900.

TBH, if you can't get on an ECNL team, (which let's face it would be tough for the majority of the players at LISC) and you've been with your team at LISC for the last year or 2, what other option do you really have?
Not gonna lie, it's hard to go from fancy GDA with their patches and showcases and marketing bluster, back to EDP or NPL which is a crystal clear lower level league. At least with this they can keep up the ambiguity of being "better".

Wait a minute. Are you trying to say that this watered down league is better than the DA league that got dumped. The same league that LISC didn't do very well in? You belong over at BOTN with the rest of your fellow LISCers who are trying to seem relevant. At least there LM blocks anybody who tries to post a reality check.

there are a lot of options
              the problem is those parents
are in the belief they actually have a player
              worth all of this nonsense
you can have the best training in the world
not sure how that adds up to developing
kids with no talent into the next Carli Lloyd

Dude you got it backwards. ON BOTN all of the posters are like you. Trying to recruit for SUSA and spread misinformation. Now that Fury is part of SUSA, former Fury is great.

Recruit for Susa? I guess Susa could use an NPL team. You guys would work for that.

It means they dont have to play mid atlantic teams, they play NE teams that are closer in travel. So thats better.

                      Already showing cracks-
"along with all eight former U.S. Soccer DA Northeast clubs including Long Island Soccer Club, committed to the new Girls Academy"

All 8 did not sign on, Fury disbanded and LISC was mid-atlantic, but I guess "along with 7 out of 8 former GDA clubs, except for the one that sold out to an ECNL club, so we grabbed the only other GDA club in the region dumb enough to sign onto this crap" doesn't have the same ring.

Where are the competitive teams in the NE?? NYCFC was the top team and they left before the DA drama. Then who? What former DA team from the NE is worth the money they will charge for this newly and currently unfunded league? You want good training, then save your money and pay for good training. But traveling even just a couple of hours for a blow out game makes no sense. The NE and the Mid Atlantic had at beat mediocre teams because they have a few decent players, but the depths of these teams was shallow and their player performances showed it.

You mean the same EDP teams that would beat LISC by a sizeable margin?? Have you checked our EDP 1st Div? Lots of quality teams in that league is that you’ve been brainwashed to believe it’s a lower league. It’s not about the league it’s about the team my friend.

You're being pedantic here. Its the 8 existing teams in the NE. They arent going to make a press release saying "7 of 8 existing and this other one that actually played another conference" because it isnt necessary. Fury is gone, its just a pool of players for SUSA now, anyway. It gets SUSA access to ECNL boys and takes the players from Fury to add to their ECNL/R teams and create more NPL 3rd and 4th teams for cash.

If you're going to launch a brand new league, you might want to get the details right. How hard is it to say-"Including 8 of the top US Soccer Development Academy Clubs located in the NE". Not hard...
