What happened to "Development Academy sucks because you can't play high school"?

Can y'all at least be bothered to keep your stories straight?

Not only are you EFing weird, you are also doing a great disservice to your children.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

This is a point though. The DA doesn't allow for HS soccer and that kinda sucks. I'm sure this has been beaten into the ground elsewhere. The question for us is if there is more value playing DA or playing with their club and HS.

Considering the Timbers dissed the 07 and 08's this year and their older teams are terrible historically. Losing sucks. No one wants to play exclusively with team that is not dedicated to winning.

        We will see though.

The DA no longer exists. When it did, the "come to our club, we're ELITE" fools claimed that the HS ban was a deal breaker.

GA, mainly amateur clubs (the Thorns being the big exception), allows high school play.

MLS Next, made up of MLS academies and a few other select amateur clubs (none in the PacNW other than the three MLS squads) does not allow high school.

But hearing the Cadillac Club boosters suggesting that Oregon players just might join WashT to get into BECNL, despite the conflict with the Oregon HS season (in non-Covid years, obviously) because "high school soccer sux", is just precious.

The Reign, not the Thorns. (Brain fart). Thorns are now in ECNL (which also allows HS). Interesting that Crossfire Premier and the rest of the big Seattle clubs were able to essentially keep the Reign out of ECNL, but CU and FC were not able to do the same thing with Portland's NWSL academy, even though the latter is run by a youth club and hasn't been historically as good of an academy as Reign has been.

But that's soccer politics for you, I guess. Perhaps CU ought to get their own name rather than paying Bernie James money to use "Crossfire". Maybe they might get more respect from the league they so vigorously tout.

                Gross.
There’s nothing gross or freaky about grown men anonymously chatting about little boys on an chat room.

It’s perfectly natural. Not gross. Not weird. Not creepy.

                    Winners:

                    * Westside. Has three teams in this age group, all got points. Copa Red, arguably the favorite, took care of business against OPFC and their God-awful yellow jerseys. Wasn't a pretty result, but it was a W. Copa TS, while not a favorite to advance out of Group D, got off to a good start by thrashing Saints (arguably one of the weaker sides in the tournament). And Copa White, the tournament's only B team, held FC Portland to a draw, getting at least one point out of the Group of Death.

                    * ADF and Salmon Creek. Both had opening-game matches against the primary competition in their respective groups, both came away with all three points and are now sitting pretty. ADF only needs one more win to clinch advancement out of Group B, and has Copa White up next. Likewise, Salmon Creek has nothing but Silver teams remaining in its group.

                    * Corvallis. Group C may be the "group of life", but Corvallis is now on top, for the moment.

                    * PCU. Another Silver team that managed a point against a Gold team. Still unlikely to advance out of Group A, but will make life tougher on the team that couldn't manage to beat them.

                    Meh.

                    * CFC, OPFC, ETFC. Lost their opening round games, but to their respective group favorites, and still are in reasonably good shape, with two winnable games ahead of them. But not much margin for error.

                    * Saints, MSC. Teams that were expected to lose, and did.

                    Losers:

                    * FC, UPDX. Neither of these two actually lost, but both hurt their chances to advance out of tough groups by failing to beat the silver-bracket foes they had in their opening round game. When you're in a Group of Death, you MUST take care of business against the bottom seeds; now both will need to avoid losing any of the "tough" games (and probably need to win at least one of them) to have a shot to move on. And both of these draws were in rivalry matches, with FC in particular having to endure the indignity of dropping points to it's biggest rival's second team.

                    Incomplete:

                    * Pachucas, Eastside. Neither had a game this weekend.

Just an FYI this tournament wasn't seeded-- as you probably know.
Also, the age group has 3 or 4 teams that played in the 'Premier Silver' division that would have a strong chance of finishing in the middle of this years 'check the box' for Premier Gold division.

FC & UPDX are just two examples of teams from 'Premier Gold' that could be considered bottom seeds if the tourney were 'seeded' & all the participating teams played in appropriate division's.

Evidenced by their results vs the top teams from the Premier Silver division in the first round of state cup group play and there performances during the shortened league play.

Your logic is correct about taking care of business, in this case Copa White & PCU handcuffed themselves with draws against-what on the day were arguably weaker teams, wouldn't call them 'losers' but each of them could of walked away with 3 points. Conversely, I would call FC & UPDX winners for escaping with draws.

Premier Gold league placement was based on nothing more than saying you want in the league; FC, UPDX, OPFC, LAFC & EST would of all fared much better in a lower division than Premier Gold.

Silver & Gold monikers attached to this version of the COVID State Cup are accurate, yet at the same time irrelevant.

                        Good luck to all.

It is of course very disturbing. But let them be as long as they keep away from children.

Mostly agree. The top end of silver and the bottom end of gold are nearly the same. But, there is a large difference between the top gold teams and bottom silver. Where the line is on who goes where is completely grey.

Large COVID effect as well. Not all teams were putting in a full effort tot get their boys on the pitch and this matters.

I dunno. FC was a top-six team in Premier Gold, not a bottom-feeder, and they were nearly beaten by a B team.
