Check the facts dude. Most goals ever in a World Cup game, and that includes both sides scoring.

And that is a stupid qualifying game that no one but a few drunk Germans bothered to watch. This is the World Cup with a worldwide TV audience expecting a worthy game to be shown.

So what? As I said this happens all the time in international soccer games. Look back at Thailand’s own record over the last few years and you’ll see them beating teams by high scores. Whether it’s in a regional cup, a World Cup qualifier, or a World Cup, it’s all international soccer and nothing changes just because it’s a World Cup. In 2001, Archie Thompson from Australia scored 13 goals himself during a World Cup qualifier against American Samoa. The final score was 31-0. There is no protocol that says you have to stop playing if the score gets too high or lopsided. If the USWNT stopped scoring, the story would be spun that they are weak or disrespected Thailand. It’s all fodder for people who don’t know anything like a lot of the posters on TS.

The point of qualifiers is to rid the proper tournament of unworthy teams so that a quality tournament is produced. The only time a team scored in double digits in either a men’s or women’s World Cup before yesterday was Hungary in 1982 with 10. At least Equador, their opponent, managed a goal. Crap tournament so far.

Thailand was just not very good. They struggled to get the ball out of their half. Their midfield had no vision, just whacked it forward. Their speed of play was poor and in almost every single case, they were overmatched physically by their US counterparts.

Add to that the Thai keeper was very poor. Short, couldn’t extend much beyond her immidiate area, never came off her line... very poor technically, tactically and obviously physically.

Score wasn’t as much a function of how good the US was, but how bad Thailand was.

The fabric of the game has taken a back seat to sensitivity and inclusion . Expansion with more teams does not make for a better tournament. They don't care, there is an agenda.

Thailand didn’t get to the World Cup by being a bad team. They got there by winning their regional qualifiers. Last year, they beat Australia twice and Australia is a very good team. And this is what group stage is for, it’s elimination pure and simple. US is top ranked defending champion so that earned the easier group stage. It will definitely get tougher in later rounds.

Scoring goals 10, 11, 12, 13 in a blow out against a team that had given up is just not that big of an accomplishment whether in youth soccer or in a World Cup. I agree that they had no choice but to keep scoring, but understand the opponent/circumstances and react accordingly.

This is the highest level of women’s soccer played in the world. It is literally a global showcase of soccer talent every 4 years. Hurt feelings because a score got run up has no place here. If you can’t compete, don’t enter the competition.

It’s like all these snowflakes have forgotten what competition is about. Just because youth sports tries to instill “good sportsmanship”, which is debatable, doesn’t mean you don’t eventually enter the real world where there is no mercy rule, in anything.

Not for nothing, but I think alex Morgan was comforting a crying Thai player afterwards. That is sportsmanship, not holding back to not score anymore...

                              You miss the point, pundit.
Blowouts occur everywhere...and this was a worthy game for US fans.
And just how many Americans, drunk or otherwise, were able to watch this match?

                                Good points

Nobody ever seems upset when Alabama football crushes some small Christian college before conference play starts.
And the same holds when Duke plays Podunk in the opening round of the NCAA
