    Other Clubs, a review

The Spring 2019 season is ending. Tryouts have happened for the big clubs. Forge them. They're expensive, don't play your kid, teach boot-it ball, and feature daddy coaches. You can have all of that without the expensive travel and with more camaraderie by going to a more local club.

This thread is not for CFC united, OW, any FSA, YU, or BS, so you guys get knotted. This is clubs like Academica, Everton, Southeast Premier, Celtic, FSC, and others.

Tell us about your local club and why we should try out there.

Friendlier atmosphere. More team-oriented things. Less pressure to "injure Mia so Lindsey can play."

Actually found the opposite. Once we got away from kids distracted with other activities and poor attendance and other conflicts into a group who just want to play, the team is much tighter. All that travel and staying together helped with that as well.

Never seen anyone try to injure a player, but have seen lots of accidents from the result of poor technique in smaller clubs.

Who is Lindsey? Sounds like she should work harder.

That's just bullsh. It's often repeated, like there's a plague of this, but there isn't. The smaller clubs pretty much play the same level and there's no increase in injuries. Any increase in injuries is high school, because you ave vast differences not only in player skill and athleticism, but player size, with 18-year-old adults sizing up against 14-year-old children.

Sorry, we experienced differently. Lots of people banging into each other and foot injuries. No intent, just happens.

Levels are much different, but I don't want to go there per the original request. Just found the "camaraderie" comment to be completely off-base. Like...night and day off-base.

Oh, well I don't mind if you are wrong. That's okay. You'll get more experience as the years go by. Just go ahead and post about your club here.

Thanks. I'm about at the end of the road so experience is all set. Your request for info was fine, but the off-base shot I wanted to call-out.

FSC north. Good bunch of kids and parents who enjoy team-related events as well as soccer-related one's. Strong coaching, can get you a look at schools like ECSU, CCSU, etc. No stupid promises about "full boats" at "strong DI schools." Won't cost you a second mortgage, either. Play is competitive, and tournaments well chosen.

My daughter learned a lot at Academica. They helped build a great foundation and made her a more disciplined player and taught her how to not just kick the ball and be more creative. Most importantly, her teammates and their families are wonderful. Everyone gets along real well and they feel like extended family.
