    Why no gold cup chat?

    Where's the Gold Cup discussion?

This is a soccer forum. Gold Cup is a thing. Heck, I would have thought this group would at least jump at the chance to discuss last night's nipple twisting.

Since you brought it up...what a bunch of animals the El Salvador team was. Two bitings, one nipple twisting, and a clear as day punch to the stomach on Morris during his first run toward the goal. Whatever ruling body, concacaf, FIFA, etc that has the ability to, should fine and punish this team.

As far as I know, there's no mechanism to hold El Salvador accountable if the ref didn't see it during the game. It's not like the post-game review we get in the Prem, for example.

US team plays like that and people want to talk about the ancillary stuff. We should be embarrassed at the performance.

Dempsey has been a great player but is getting on. Altidore is out of form. Other than Howard, does the USMNT really have any top class players? For example, do we have any players in the Prem any more, La Liga ... uuum, League Un?

I was disappointed in Morris after seeing the replay. He gets punched in the stomach and acted as though nothing happened except holding his gut.

This team is an unenjoyable mess.

For example, we have Dom Dwyer. He played youth for Norwich City (and got cut). Playing for a second-tier club means Dom Dwyer would never have gotten an England callup, he'd probably be 845th on the list. But, this guy can make the USMNT.

That is, at best, our players are second tier compared to our competition.

Oh, and as a side note, it is playing at college that got Dom Dwyer into MLS and USMNT, so any claim that we do not rely on the college system is off base, at least for now.

Great point on Dom Dwyer. here si a sobering thought . Bradley Wright Phillips , who is arguably a better player than Dwyer, would NEVER get even close to the England team. England are not considered to be a really top team.

Klinsmann seemed to have tried to find ways to make the US team better, Arena seems to have found support in just coaching to the US grit and determination - quality be damned.

JK lost the players who he challenged, they love Arena becasue he does not seem to challenge them at all. He gets gutsy effort and like I said , that seems to be enough for the US soccer public.

I dont want to hear about the difference that Pulisic would make. he would help, but its much bigger than that,. We are terrible at soccer and we seem to have no plan to get any better.

Even our refs are second tier.

Arena doesn't challenge the players? Really, you need to do your homework. Furthermore, Arena is the most winningest US coach. He's also undefeated since he came back. I think he knows a little about coaching.

JK lost the players because he was an Idiot. Same reason he got fired from Bayern and left the German National team.

PS. Don Dwyer got cut from Norwich City because he got hurt and was believed to be too short. The Brits like their players big. It was because of talent.

P.S. It doesn't actually matter why Don Dwyer got cut. He was at Norwich City. Second tier at best.

You are exactly why nothing will change. You point to winnigest US coach like it means something. Until we care about How we play, we will stay where we are. Dom Dwyer is terrible in a global context. Hard working and gritty for sure but no talent

Arena does not challenge the players. he is an MLS guy who is going to pick MS players and get the most out of the, The fact that that is not very much should be the issue.

Im not a JK fan either, but stepping back to MLS mediocrity is hardly some big step forward for US Soccer.

Agreed. Like no one ever waited for an injured player WITH talent to get healthy. BWP is a golden boot winner. So is Chris Wondolowski. Altidore could not cut it in any big league and yet he is a mainstay in the US team. These guys come home for cushy pay days because no other club would have them at anywhere close to the MLS numbers.

BWP and Dwyer are so far away from the England team and have NEVER EVER been remotely close. Defoe came here and was so stunned by how bad it was, he went back to the PL and continues to score

                            I am the reason, gotcha

We are only seeing MLS and Mexican players now because this is out of season for European leagues

Arena was brought in for one reason. To clean up the mess that Klinsy made by qualifying for the World Cup. So in that concept yes winning always matters

For WC qualification Arena will bring in all of the European based players,: Johnson, Pulisc, Cameron, Brooks, Yedlin, Ream, and Wood. Maybe others like Chandler, Miazga, and Lichaj

Yes those players will be supplemented by Altidore, Gonzalez, Bradley, Howard, Nagbe, Dempsey and Morris

And, since men's soccer is a third-tier sport in the USA, it will never attract our best athletes.
