A HS coach can't sanction anything (playing or not) during the summer. If your kid can play, just like in premier, the coach will deal with it. No matter what a poor player does, it aint happening for that kid (excpet maybe until they are a senior at many smaller HS teams).

Pretty positive the coaches at our school aren't idiots. Safe to say they easily in the top 3 of high school programs in the state.

The coaches who are trying to build their program through a summer league at FSA are the real idiots.

Must be a pay-to-play private school since it isn't GHS.

It's a place to play games over the summer. Doesn't matter if it is FSA or not, the point was getting underclassmen an additional 20-something games and 3 summer seasons prior to their senior year. Why would anyone only want their varsity to play? I would want all of my players playing summer ball .... it would help the team in the long run.

How can this signal a false sense of security anyways since it can not be organized by a coach?!?! Since it appears to be, your coach is an idiot times 2.
If a roster is only going to have so many players, why would a coach want to give spots to freshmen? He'll want his most likely fall varsity line up playing and ready for fall. Not all players play club so they haven't played since November. Those not playing this league are free to do whatever else they want to play, plus almost all schools run captains practices, "camps" (loosely defined), kids text each other and meet to scrimmage.

              - another frequent top state finisher

Summer leagues allow high level club players the opportunity to readjust to kicking the ball to the fast forward who outruns the plodding defenders. That way they're ready to go come fall.

Many towns offer summer leagues, ours doesn't. Our town has a high school warm-up and several in-town camps (some public some privately run but open to all) that the HS JV and V soccer coaches reportedly expect incoming and returning players to be at and reportedly the coaches receive feedback on player performance. In addition, via word of mouth outgoing V players run informal Captains' Practices - 2 hour scrimmages a week before the HS tryouts.

If your kid plays competitive soccer, aka, ecnl, you don't need a summer hack league. Give your player some rest. 12 months a year = not good = injury

Well, if you have a large senior class you won't have enough kids! Most coaches want the better JV players so he/she can get a good look in meaningless games.

GHS or the other scrub CCC teams?

Seems like a waste of time and money. My kids team has a lot of club players. They don't need to join some hack league of mostly JV and Freshman girls trying to make a name for themselves and make the varsity team. Our captains run fitness and once a week scrimmages. Mostly for bonding and to keep fitness up. Club kids don't need those touches.

My kids hs team could probably beat the FSA state teams. Wouldn't that be embarrassing

Last year, my daughter's team had captain's practices that were open to all returning and incoming players. They didn't play in a league but played in the Nutmeg Games. A minority of all the players did it, even seniors. A couple of girls trained all summer and played in the Nutmeg Games and then got cut at tryouts because they were juniors and the coach felt that if you were a junior and still not good enough to make varsity (in his opinion), you should find a new activity. No juniors were allowed on JV. I thought that was pretty sucky because while the girls weren't the greatest, they were ok players and better than some of the freshmen and sophomores that made JV. If juniors were OK playing JV, why shouldn't the coach be? They might have provided some leadership to the younger girls. The other girls felt bad about it. There's a new coach this year so maybe the policy will change this season.

Because then he had to keep those players for senior year. At some point the kids have to be able to play the game or get cut.
