Well its not that simple. The ecnl typically just doesn't grant every club ecnl status, actually wished they did team by team and not award it to whole club. Ecnl girls has been super weak in this state last year except for the u18 teams. Crossfire got smoked at 04 and 03, nearly an minus 80 goal difference in their seasons. What fun is that to get creamed and not be competitive. Then Seattle united and and pac nw were awarded ecnl stature when Crossfire already struggled. I know many rcl teams that went undefeated against the 04 ecnl teams this summer and most of the games weren't even close. Washington premier seems to do ok but what parents on the eastside are willing to drive to Puyallup 4 nights a week?

My daughters highschool team on the eastside who finished just behind Issauquah in 4a had two freshman make varsity, a select player and an rcl player. the 3 freshman ecnl players, one made jv and the other two made the c team from the crossfire ecnl. so that tells you right there the current talent level at ecnl.

I see pac nw and Washington premier doing the best at ecnl this year and crossfire and seattle united really struggling at least the 03 and younger age groups.

Now if crossfire does indeed have to give up ecnl this next year I imagine Pac nw and seattle united might improve, especially since We are hearing many(up to half) girls from Crossfire academy and reign academy teams are going to leave the DA so they can play high school soccer next year and actually attend their school dances and things. The Da on the girls side are idiots for not allowing the girls to play for their schools. The boys side doesn't care because most of the most think they will go pro and are willing to give up anything for that chance. While the girls want both worlds, soccer and social lives to an extent and not feel like they missed out completely on their high school life. The DA doesn't get the girls anywhere but college and a small number to the Olympic team and then what? Most girls use soccer as a way to get a good college education and less of a cost to ensure them a great career. There is no professional career with huge amounts of money dangling in front of them like the boys side. What has the DA done for the boys side anyways? The mens national team has sucked for years and in shambles all while the Womens side continues to excel. Maybe its time for USA soccer to actually look at the set up.

The ecnl teams around here are mostly a joke right now and not worth jumping into and a lot of the 04,03,02 age groups. We will see what happens at 05.

GDA is not a bigger recruiting platform. That is not a reach. You can ask the college coaches who are doing the recruiting. Most actually prefer ECNL over GDA.

Really. I thought Eastside was going to drop Reign and get ECNL.
Maybe it is a race who will be first to drop GDA. Loser holding the bag of crap.
One GDA club in WA means probably 16+ travel weekends a year including
showcases and summer. Four months of weekends traveling. Good for
the grades. Rethink, ladies and gents.

So, your dd is a select level player or a non ECNL rcl player who lives in Redmond and
know all of the freshmen ECNL girls at your dd's school and know that upto half
of the Reign and Crossfire girls are leaving GDA. Way, way too much info in your
head. A bit creepy researching this, dad. For what reason? You are the guy with the
big brains and everyone else are bunch of idiots? For high.school.soccer.
              Relax, dad.

No actually someone that is very involved with washington youth soccer, has kids playing at all levels and different clubs and gotten to know many different coaches, families, and kids. Someone that that has coached many of the kids playing premier or higher and pays attention to what is going on within all the local clubs and has tried to stay on top of the ever changing youth soccer in this state which has seemed to have had big changes yearly the past few years. It's not creepy at all, too many families go blindly into premier soccer and there isnt much help knowing whether your sending your kid to the right club, coach, playing in the right league and by doing our homework on things like that makes us creepy? To actually listen to what parents, coaches and directors are saying helps many families decide all of that to which is going to be the right fit for their kids. Many clubs arent exactly open about their plans for the next upcoming year right until tryouts are happening and a lot fo families then feel stuck if a club decides to pull out of a league or what not.

                  Sounds more like aggressive Schadenfreude.
Calling whole teams a joke is not helpful.
I doubt you are being altruistic for greater soccer good.

I have tried to give useful information. Just because a club has DA or Ecnl or just at rcl doesn't mean you should jump on it. Look what has happened the on the girls side the last few years. First they change the age groups and what year they start 11 aside. Screws some of the younger kids that birthdays fall late in the calendar year. Many of them sit in the fall months at that first high school age, while many players on their team play high school soccer as freshman. Only a handful of middle schools actually have soccer these days and some. Then lets add Da on the girls side two clubs in the state and try and have crossfire have DA and ecnl teams and be competitive. Didn't work out very well for them. Then this past year lets have seattle united back out of the reign Academy alliance with eastside essentially in the middle of the year because of the fighting over field space among other things. Then SU and pac are awarded ecnl, which is probably great for pac and decent for su at the younger ages. They have a chance for stability and to keep homegrown talent more than before. But say at 05 and up all this has absolutely diluted the talent in the Seattle to eastside area. You Have 2 Da teams, 3 ecnl teams and then have rcl teams all in a small radius. There just isn't enough talent to go around and parents seem to be willing to switch from club/team every year just to have some status of their kid playing in this certain league. One of the reasons in my opinion so many ecnl teams struggled last year. Lets create new teams with a bunch of new players that have little to no team chemistry together and go compete against the top teams in the country.

.. You have some Da teams doing pretty ok, most of the ecnl teams getting beat up in Ecnl, where they aren't even being competitive in that league, cant beat some of the local rcl teams in summer tournaments around here. In turn had made the Rcl division 1 much weaker than it ever has been.
Every year they keep adding new leagues, for example this coming year they have added the champions league and awarded 8 local clubs to it. Crossfire, Snohomish, Issaquah, etc will be playing in this league while some of the local clubs cant even compete in the top two divisions of the rcl.

An uninformed parent could absolutely have their head spin from all the constant changes and what club/coach/league is best for them. In my experience the club has little to do with where you should be playing at. Its all about the group of kids your kid is playing with and the coach you have. Need to have a coach that is going to teach and constantly improve your kids skill and love for soccer. Winning isn't the most important, but it is also important to not get your butts kicked every weekend either. Ecnl might be a choice for you whether the team is good or not once your kid is at high school age especially if you feel that's the only way they will get noticed for colleges. I know many parents and players are playing at top two older ages at ecnl just to get noticed and they are playing for themselves and not the team anymore. Kind of have to get selfish at that point.

Just remember the coach works for you and when joining a new club or getting a new coach for the upcoming year don't be afraid to basically interview the coach. A good coach will have no problem sitting down or talking over the phone and talking shop prior to tryouts or when you have been given an offer.

That is about the dumbest advice that I have ever heard.

If the coach is good and knows what he is doing, he will surely cut the kid with the idiot parent.

You had some good points up until you tried to give you advice.

Coaches as well as players come and go. If your soccer decision is based on following a coach or a group of players around, you will eventually be disappointed.

A coach who wants to talk shop with a parent or has time to be interviewed by a parent is not one that you want coaching your kid.

So you're saying its dumb to talk to a coach before your kid is trying out or has a new incoming coach to find out if it's a good fit for your kid? Especially at the older ages. That if you have an offensive player but a coach who is really defensive minded it's not ok to find that out? What formations and style they like to play? Where you could go weeks without working on offense that would benefit your particular player? Or have a defensive player with a coach who mainly only cares about offense? That is a recipe for disaster for the player. I agree you shouldn't be talking shop with a coach throughout the year a lot but there are no issues with finding out what a coach is about before making a decision.

If you kid is at the older ages, I would assume you already know a little bit about soccer and know the coach's reputation. Your kid is at the older ages and you want to have a talk with the coach?? Time to let them grow up a bit.

Uninformed parents shelling out $$$$ for ECNL? Please stop.
More like wishful thinking parents shelling out $$$$ for X league,
which the clubs and leagues capitalize on.
U12 = Yes, she is the ONE, the Golden Child.
U16 = Ok. At least she is getting exercise and staying out of trouble.

Here is a little factoid for parents to keep in their pockets
when they are shelling out big bucks out of pocket:
Roughly out of 400,000 girl hs age soccer players
in the US alone, 2% play D1 soccer. 2.5% play D3 soccer.
                            P5 conferences? .05% play D1 soccer.

Advice? Grades first. Soccer x. Boys 100th, after root canal 99th.
High school soccer will probably the highest most girls will ever play.
Make sure it is her dream, not your ego.

GDA has been great for our DD. The competition in league games is as good as when our daughter played in ECNL showcases last year against top 20 youth soccer ranked teams for the girls 2005 age group and again in HI at USYS U13 regionals. Fierce. GDA teams in the NW division are in general strong for the 2005 age. Maybe the 8th grade girls do not have to choose between playing school soccer and club soccer. CA Thorns, San Jose Quakes and Crossfire Premier duke it out at the top of the NW division. Close second, if you watched the games which we can see all of them in a GDA streaming service, Portland Thorns and Utah’s La Roca are a battle, they are next level down, but not a distant level down per game footage. Placer and Reign are third tier down, look more like ECNL Seattle United or Crossfire United in OR Or USYS Snohomish and WA Timbers on a solid day. The only team in NW GDA division that is fourth tier down is LaMorinda from the Bay Area. I think GDA should add U13 (2007 next year, 7th graders) and then they will have the corner on top talent for U13 and U14 age groups. After U14 I agree with other posters, things get diluted.... some girls will leave GDA to play high school. What I really think USSF should do is scrap GDA, then ensure the health of boys DA with some changes there (that’s for another post) and recruit top girls players to boys DA teams. Simple. They recruit from ECNL and offer to the best ECNL girls a spot on a local boys DA team. You get maybe 100 or so girls in the nation truly exceptional and willing to skip HS soccer, with plans to try to make the Girls national team if they can, and boom. Simple. The fastest women in the world are faster than 95%+ of all men, the top 100 or so girls (the very best) can develop alongside the top 5,000 very good boys. Pele is quoted in Mia Hamm’s book that “he would not have liked to have met her on the field”. For super talented ECNL Girls that do not live close enough to a boys DA team, they could still be invited to a girls national team camp, but the odds go down on their development without being able to seize the opportunity to play alongside talented boys.

Here’s a novel idea ... scrap this bs pay to play nonsense . Too many people make a living from
Very low level soccer . Bsing the parents with DA , Ecdl(or whatever nonsense that is) Rcl (😂) . If your kid is playing on a 3rd team of one of the big guns they really should be playing select soccer and no higher . Why are parents so blinded by their own egos ? Stop fooling yourself and deal with reality . You are being ass raped by all the big premier clubs and forced into their rubbish system . The sad part is what will happen when the big clubs monopolise to the point of no other clubs existing ? What will happen to the kids that can’t afford the outrageous fees ? The rcl is already a closed shop to many better teams that currently play Outside it but would love the slight step up in competition . It’s a business, and not about development !where all they have to do is **** out some very average players who get to play against a load of other average upper middle class kids . It’s a joke from top to bottom ! The only people who are being fooled are the gullible parents with their scarves and car stickers thinking they have cracked it .
